Pinkel's flipping the bird to his detractors. Simple. He's putting all his chips on Pinkel. I think we know how this turns out.

Maybe we'll see football in 2015.

The ONLY bright spot I see here is that Alden can't afford for football to go downhill. He has too much riding on it. I can't imagine him letting Pinkel make a crap hire for OC. We have a short window to establish ourselves - a hire that doesn't excite fans and produce wins will negatively impact his plans, and he's a business man. That won't be tolerated.

Ok, given the ONLY bright spot.

Who's left?

I agree. Whatever passive aggressive games Pinkel is playing to keep control of the program, he's painting himself into a corner. I don't think he realizes that.

Alden is not going to allow him to blow up Mizzou football just to salvage his ego.

And to answer SoCal's question: no one and everyone is left. But mostly no one.

A guy over on Tigerboard said Chaney turned down Mizzou in favor of Arkansas over money. If that is true, I'm even more pissed, and they better have someone else in their back pocket. Also a factor - some coaches don't like to join a program that appears to be unstable, and I don't think there's any way Pinkel's job can be considered secure.

And there are still guys available. My personal favorite for the job among them, Mike Groh. But they need to be busy and quit twiddling their thumbs.

I didn't want to waid back into this but......

I find it hard to believe Arkansas outbid us for Chaney. I've seen it writen that Mizzou is willing to pay what it takes to attain the right guy. Upwards of 700k and maybe more per year. Thats over twice the amount they were paying Yost. If they offered Chaney, I don't know how much though.

Think about it Semo. If you were a top OC in the NCAA, and your looking to move up to a HC job somewhere. Why wouldn't you consider a team with a head coach that may not be there in a few years or year? Whether it appears to be in disarray or not? It appears Arkansas has a new quality HC that is going to be around for awhile, Mizzou has a HC that may not.

Then again.....????

Go to Chris Ault and hire whoever he recommends.

Well, Chaney just watched Dooley lose his job and lost his own as a result. He might want to be somewhere more secure. And he could still figure he could be a candidate for the HC job at Mizzou, only from a stronger fallback position of they hire someone else. Assuming Pinkel is gone in a year or two.

Mike Alden is clearly giving GP the rope to hang himself. The internal hire makes the noose.

True with Alden. This is GP's call all the way.

What I find strange about all this is, if this winds up being an internal hire. Why would it take this long after Chaney has left the building to announce? I think Chaney was thier #1 option to go after. I think he turned us down for what ever reason. I'd say if something doesn't get announced in the next couple days, GP is still looking outside the circle. I would hope Chaney wasn't his only option outside our present staff.

I've waded up to my neck through speculation for the last few days, it's dizzying. I really have to admit, if PG picked Henson, I would be alright with that.

Maybe it's a behind-the-scenes battle. GP wants Henson, the boosters want an outside hire, Alden is trying to mediate between the two sides while keeping his hands clean. Maybe GP gets his way, maybe they settle on Hill as a safe option, maybe the Mayans are right and none of this matters.

It sounds like someone has inside sources now? Get ready for some of this if thats the case

Oh, I have no sources. Just read this is the case on another board, and it makes sense. Think about it. If Alden lets GP have his way, he's seen as the good guy if he has to hire a new coach in a year or two. Coaches don't like heavy-handed ADs who get in the way of their decision making. He knows GP has painted himself into a corner, and if he lets him have his way his hands are clean and he'll have the full support of the boosters if next season doesn't go well.

I'm still thinking about the Mayans though.

Don't really know how to prep for the world ending, other than to make peace with God.

Seriously, I do wonder what it all means, this "end of an age" thing. It's very interesting that it comes at a time of such turmoil - wars, and rumors of wars, financial instability around the world, etc. It's a little creepy.

We're having an End of the World party on the 21st. Our featured beer...

A fitting brew...

I know you guys are just playing around about the world ending..

But it's a pet peeve of mine (I'm sure it's annoying) but I gotta tell people that the Mayans never predicted the end of the world. The date 12/21/2012 marks some incredible astrological events that will be happening. When the world doesn't end they'll all be saying the Mayans were wrong, but actually they accurately charted astrological events thousands of years in advance, with the precision of an atomic clock.

We know without a doubt that the Mayans were accurate. The galactic alignment is proven to happen, the sun will go through the dark rift of our Milky Way on 12/21. This is the result of the precession of the equinox which is a cycle that completes every 26,000 years. The Mayans saw 12/21 as the end of an age, not the end of the world. It marks the beginning of a new age. I know it's annoying when I go on these tangents, just a pet peeve of mine when people talk about the world ending.

As for MU, if we hire Andy Hill and let Henson leave I'll wish the world will end. That is the worst case scenario. At this point, let's just hire Henson and see if this staff can save itself next year.

I think it's akin to Dec 31 in our calendar.

It ends, and starts over again.

I'll still get booed up and celebrate it.

Just like I do with our calendar.

I know you're just playin it light.. but yeah, a calendar that cycles every year and one that was created by ancients that accurately cycles every 26,000 years to match major astrological events are pretty similar. But, I suppose it all brings us to the same place, booze.
