Is this speculation or from an article? And thanks!

yes please. No way this happens but holy shite if it does. How impressive would it be for a HS kid on offense to get a call from say Discount Double Check telling them what a great man and coach Tedford is?
Time to bust out some wal mart money and get this done.
Chaney would make a nice second choice.

Tedford is the only interesting name on there for me.

I am confused about Josh Henson. He is the associate OL coach. Just because he sat next to OC Spicolli does not make him an OC in waiting.
I sat next to the three hottest girls in high school and that did not make me a ladies man. The first bottle of Courvoisier I bought made me a Ladies Man Yesssssssssss!!!

Saw a rumor that Petrino could be headed to the Vols. If there is any truth to it I think he doesnt retain Chaney. Way different offensive philosophies.

The rumors are all over the place. In the past 15 minutes alone, I've heard the Vols are close to hiring Mike Gundy, Charlie Strong and now Petrino. No one really knows.

very true lol how long do you guys think the search for an OC will go on? I dont want the hire to be rushed but I also want to allow plenty of time for the recruits to get the news and for the OC to be effective in the process.

I actually hope it's quick. The sooner the better, but I also want to be sure they get the right coach for the job. The guy I kind of like for the job, Mike Groh, isn't on the list.
I don't know much about Tony Franklin - has he coached in the SEC?
Another positive for Chaney is that he's not going to be coaching a bowl game, and could start immediately.

Franklin was Auburn's OC before Malzahn

Just specualtion from names I've seen.
The name that really intrigues me is Jake Spavital. Was a qb and punter at Missouri St where he graduated from in '08. The last 3 qbs he's coached.... Geno Smith, Brandon Weeden, and Case Keenum.

Franklin coached at Auburn with Tuberville and was fired after 6 games in the 2010 season. They were 4-2 with losses to LSU and VANDY. He is a spread guy and when he coaches the small teams (Troy, LTU) he usually averages in the 450 ypg range. Auburn didnt give him alot of time. I personally like Chaney. Has success in the SEC. Born in Missouri and raised in Missouri. Has SEC ties. Knows how to coach QBs. And although we were underwhelming this year we do have a lot of talent on the offense. DGB, Lucas, Josey coming back, Marcus Murphy, Hansburough, guys that can fit his system. And I still feel if HEALTHY Franklin can be a very solid QB.

Seems intriguing. Those are some pretty big names for college QBs. Kinda young though might be too early to rush him into the SEC. Would be awesome to get him on the staff somehow though.

chaney's success in the SEC is limited to one season. I'm not sure about him.

So, he's been out of school for less than 5 years and has coached at WVU, OSU and Houston? That's intriguing, but he's jumped around a lot and is still really young.

Looked him up. So, he graduated MoSt in 2008, and spent the next three seasons as a GA at Tulsa, Houston, and OSU before moving to WVU to work as QB coach for Holgersen. No OC experience, but a lot of promise. Riskier than some of the other candidates.
Not sure what I think about Tony Franklin. Definite upside, but his "system seminars" seem gimmicky, and the book about Kentucky football apparently didn't sit well with his coaching brethren. Seems like a spectacular success at smaller schools, less so when the competition is tougher.

You're right Semo I thought he was the OC. Someone from the Sumlin/Holgerson coaching tree definately has upside. Being as young as he is he may be a good recruiter too.

Could be. Depends on whether we want to take a risk on someone without any OC experience or not. If there are no more changes to the staff, whoever takes the OC job is going to have to build credibility and rapport with a bunch of guys who have been together for a long time. That would be extra tough for a guy as young as him. That's why I like Groh - early 40s, has the OC experience, has coached under Strong and Saban (twice).

Jake Spavital = unlikely because of age and work history. Jumping from school to school doesn't fit Pinkel's style. If he's a dynamic kid I could see him being forced but he'd have to be an obvious head coach prospect in waiting.
If the Tigers are going internal, they'll do it by Saturday.
Names not mentioned:
Dan Hawkins - unlikely but he's a solid OC mind. That's why Colorado hired him to be HC.
Robert Gillespie - RB coach for South Carolina, Okie State and WVU. Young up and comer.
Frank Cignetti Jr. - OC at Rutgers
Calvin Magee - PITT OC
