I see a guy who has a Saban like opportunity to build a real legacy if he continues to grow as a football CEO.

He needs to give up coaching and manage the team.

Saban was hiring new coordinators every year due to thefts and when a unit failed he got a new coordinator. That's the correct model IMHO.

Looking at who UF and Arky picked up…. Yikes.

Definitely not a good year to be hunting for a coach.

Sumrall is going to be a beast at Florida ...

He has a 42-11 record at Troy and Tulane ... two schools that don't have the resources or recruiting that he'll have at Florida.

I'll eat my words if wrong but he was who I hoped we got if Drink left ...

Florida is a weird place. It took all time great coaches to win NCs there and both took advantage of Bama being down at the time. Spurrier wouldnt have got a second chance at FSU in 1996 if Texas hadnt pulled a rabbit out of the hat vs Nebraska in the B12 championship game.

They usually have a boat load of defensive and skill talent but are rarely elite at oline.

Success isnt a given for the new guy.

Like 14 of those were G5 one score wins. That won’t be sustainable.

I agree. Florida's a 4 year rebuild with some good top ten upsets along the way. To get to a 10 win season by 2029 should be the goal.

True. Though I think guys like Baugh (or Hardy) don't need elite lines to be successful.

Florida's biggest problem is they haven't had a decent QB coach in forever (Lagway can have all the athleticism in the world but his mechanics and field reading are dogshit ... similar to what we're experiencing at Mizzou ...)

And i think Baugh winds up at UGA once the portal opens up ...

Which will make the UF job even tougher

UGA has mysteriously missed on WR prospects. We need to get Olugbode that Schnucks chip deal for 2026 and 2027 ASAP. Coleman got it for 2025 so its up for grabs.

They arent winning a NC without an elite line and that is the expectation.

In the end, it’s not the end of the world that we lost every game that mattered. It kept Drinkwitz here. We would’ve been fighting to hire a Silverfield or worse. Not ideal.

We can dance with the chubby chick who’s a good time for another song.

I should have been more clear in my response to Amish. I was referring to Florida and more so their fan's expectations.

I completely agree that its good thing Laird isnt hiring a new staff in this cycle. We'd be looking at 3 win season next year between Drink leaving and the portal exodus that would have followed.

I should have clarified. I just posted at the end of the thread. It wasn’t a response to you.

Odom inherited a really bad time to take over the team.

Not to mention the limits on scholarships imposed by the NCAA in what is still one of the most overreaching punishments they ever handed down. We had a rogue tutor take a test - NC issued grades for classes that didn't exist and got nothing...

I like Barry Odom a lot as a person and leader, but not sure he would have had success even if he had full support/no restrictions on scholarships. Will be interesting to see if Odom can lead Purdue anywhere near respectability - then I guess we'll know.

True that those guys will get their share of success most Saturdays - but they do need elite lines to be successful against elite defenses.
