Bass hits on a good point here.

Especially in the SEC, the school football team is the only game in town throughout the whole state. No pro football team, no pro baseball teams, no other major sport team to compete against period.

And the ones that do are not competing against a popular pro football team or one of the most storied MLB teams in existence. Pretty sure none of them are fighting against a pro hockey club either.

Georgia can argue it has pro competition. Florida can as well. I don't know if any other SEC teams can claim much competition. (disclaimer: I don't care what Texas claims)

Plus, it’s helpful if you can take clients to events. It’s not the same having to get your clients to CoMo from STL versus meeting them at the arena or stadium.

That’s a negative on simple logistics.

The executive suites and boxes in the new north end zone may help here, but still got to get them to town first. At least this is a common problem among many college towns. Ironic that Penn State might be the worst place for this sort of thing.

I'm okay with Drink staying, but I didn't imagine him getting much of a raise. I would have rather gotten an unproven, but smart coach.
I think NIL means you can get players despite lack of coaching track record. Just need for some school to prove it, and Mizzou would be the ideal guinea pig.

I get extending Drink and possibly a salary increase. Spend a $1 to save $2 long term. Not the time to be searching for a coach and then overpaying because of limited supply and greater demand. I gave Drink benefit of the doubt on his coaching because I thought he was bought into the plan at Mizzou. No more. He better “SHOW ME” next season if he’s going to play this game.

So frustrating that he's good at so many things (recruiting, portal, fundraising, defensive assignments) yet so meh at the thing that was supposed to be his strength , offense.

Bernie Miklasz made a video about the offense. As always he just says what he thinks.

His stats are only against SEC teams. Here are some highlights:

Missouri scores 22 points per game. 10th in the SEC. But if you remove the Mississippi State game they score 16 points per game.

After the first drive against Oklahoma that scored 3 points the rushing attack was held to just 23 yards for the rest of the game.

The passing attack stats put us at or near the bottom of the conference. He lists them.

I have always been a Drink fan but am starting to wonder if he can or will improve the offense. Is the problem Quarterbacks? O-Line? Receivers? Scheme?

A link to Bernie's video: The stats start about 9 minutes in. Video is 25 min long.

Frank Cusumano reports that its a 6 year extension and funds to have a top 4 assistant pool. Go get an OC and get out of his way.

Yep, saw that. Now the question becomes: Will he? Or perhaps: Can he?

The good news is that we don’t have to hire a whole staff. Bump up Batoon’s salary. Bump up Luper.

Go get an OC, a QB coach, DB coach and a Special teams coach.

The first two are most important, IMO. And it might be good to not have a whole new staff next year.

So that’s that. Money for a top 4 sec staff which should translate to about a top 15 in the nation staff on pay.

Let Kirby walk, ditch the ego, and being a new offensive style to the show.

Continuing to lean on just D and a run game like it’s the 80s a8nt gonna win you many more games with the new sec schedule.

Agreed. Retaining Batoon, Early, Peeler, Luper, Blackwell, Nicholson and Jones is a big deal.

They are going to have to take a hard look at Yoro and Pogue. Yoro is Batoon's guy but the safety play isnt close to what it was with Baker. I wont mind retaining Pogue but he has to be able to coach a more consistent group.

Link has to go. Special teams SP+ is 115th in the nation.

The offense needs a total reset. It needs to be as multiple as Batoon's defense. Drink is going to have to step outside the comfort zone with his choice.

How many new guys can you bring in without risking some sense of staff continuity?

Navy - On Brandon Jones ... I see you want him retained. I can't pretend to know what I'm looking at on offensive line play. On the surface it looks like our OL is overmatched far too often, yet when I see PFF grades on our linemen they're generally excellent. How can both be true?

Is a matter of a couple of weak links missing assignments? And when does it become a coaching problem?

Also, you like the zone running scheme, but not the play selection at certain junctures in a game, correct?

Your O line gets overmatched when play calling is predictable.

Stacking the box because you don't fear the vertical pass makes any offensive line look bad. Especially if you can set up the linebackers 3 yards behind the LOS because you know if the offense does attempt a pass it won't be between the hashmarks.

I like drink, I’m okay with extending him.

Like others have said, new OC and improved QB play would make this year and last year playoffs contenders.

With all the coaching changes going on right now, I like the stability.

It's worth it if he fixes the offense. If not, the buyout should be doable. And we're off the carousel for this cycle.

I said preseason Jones had a solid rebuild to make. It hasn't been pretty sometimes but they were good enough. When a DC knows the ball is getting run to the boundary 84% of the time in 1st down, Mesh or Snag 85% of the time on 2nd down, and Y Cross or Dagger on 3rd down his job is pretty easy.

Zone blocking is fine but the run game has to be as multiple as the defense its facing
