Pinkel was light years better than Drink is at this point.
If Pinkel had NIL (and less wine) ... we probably win an SEC Championship before he left.
What's crazy to me is paying top 10 coaching money for a top 50 coach ...

Pinkel went 14-2 in 2013 and 2014 respectively in the SEC i don't see Drink accomplishing that
In 2014, we went 11-3.
If this team had the 2014 schedule, we’re probably closer to 10-2 in the regular season. We don’t have a head scratching loss to Indiana. We wouldn’t lose 34-0 to Georgia and we didn’t lose by 29 to Alabama.
2013 was Pinkel’s best team, IMO. And was well over a decade into his tenure here.

Nitpicking but I still believe the 2007 was the best team, even though it was in the Big 12.

Drink is at a crossroads which is why he may seriously consider PSU. He gets donors to donate. He gets his bags for the portal. But he's excited donors who now want to see results. The Bama game was supposed to be the beginning of a breakthrough year, but he's produced the same lackluster result vs good teams.
It had not sunk into my head how much clout boosters have now. If they start to think he is not the guy and dial back their support then it is big trouble.
Fixing the offense may not be something that can wait for next year.

4 NFL olinemen and 4 NFL DEs. That team was stacked in the trenches. Had the 13th ranked SOS too.

Sure you can. You can compare anything.

Drink might or might not be the guy who gets us to the playoffs. But he’s our coach now and there’s no reason to change that.
Exactly right. It sucks to be caught in this eddy of "close, but no cigar", but running Drink off would be LSU fan level stupidity. He's raised the floor to where we're thinking CFB playoffs, but he still hasn't nailed down quarterback and offensive coordinator to compete at the A level.
Pushing him out the door would prematurely end the program's momentum (hell the 9 game conference schedules might do that), but he's earned the right to keep trying. He has to find a quarterback ASAP. His leash has run out at the QB position. If he doesn't get it right for 2026 he'll be gone after 2027 anyway.

Don't forget that Drink managed to convince "new age" media that he's so much better than the other options for coaching vacancies right now. That is something no Mizzou coach did as well as Drink, not even close.

Pinkel didn’t win 10 games until year 7
Of course, he took over a much worse program than Drink.

This is hopium if there ever was. There can be no playoff expectations without wins over upper shelf teams. The tOSU game was a small glimpse of that but turns out it was a meaningless exhibition game that meant nothing moving forward.
If Drink had a regular season top10 win under his belt and just missed playoffs due to a bad loss, I'd say you are on track. His record against ranked teams, let alone top10, is nowhere near playoff expectation levels.

Fix the OC, and the talent on offense looks good.
But Drink also needs to fix telling his teams we win in the 4th quarter. Yes, you want to be strong in the 4th when in a close game. But you have to teach a team that they should take control before the 4th and make that mop-up time.
Needs to teach his teams to build a lead in the first half and then stifle any attempts by the opponent in the 3rd quarter.
