Not even close dude. I understand not playing SLU but SLU is likely the best basketball program in the state.

My step daughter is a senior and is looking at colleges. She will probably end up at Iowa. I thought I would be let down that it wasn't Nizzou or OU (live in Oklahoma and could watch Mizzou play them even though I hate OU football).
But frankly, as much as I hate to say it, Iowa looks like a much better choice than Mizzou.

Has she been to Iowa in the winter?
They ride snowmobiles on the rivers! IOWA stands for Idiots Out Wondering Around - in the cold..

Zero people outside of STL care about SLU. If they are better than Mizzou-that’s just another reason Martin needs to be shown the door.
Mizzou should not be lowering themselves to a level of yearly rivalries with the likes of SLU. kU and Illinois- yes. SLU and UMKC - no.

I don’t disagree that Mizzou has nothing to gain by playing SLU. But they also have nothing to gain playing CMSU which I believe they have done before. The problem is that there is a good likelihood they would lose to SLU.

LOL
No offense, but Mizzou ain't Duke.
And that "little community college" has been to the NCAA's 10 times, won a national title when the NIT was considered the premier championship game, and produced more Naismith Hall of Famers (3) than Mizzou (0).

And I guess Auburn shouldn't lower themselves by playing SLU....in St. Louis this winter. They too have the same number of NCAA Tournament appearances and recently accomplished something that Mizzou has yet to do.

I used to live there. It was painstakingly miserable from November to April. If you enjoy blizzards on Thanksgiving then you will like it there. I couldn't wait to leave.

Why?

SLU vs Mizzou should be considered a game like Kentucky vs Louisville. I know neither one of the programs is on their level but at least start with playing each other.
The worst part about it is that it's already too late. That rivalry should have started back when Larry Hughes was there.

1999-01 was the last time they played each other.

Why?
1. Better academics
2. No mask mandate
I could list more but those are very important factors.

Mizzou is not in the same zip code academically as Iowa.
Iowa City is an ok town. But it’s fricking cold. And your nearest bigger city is Cedar Rapids, which smells worse than Wood River, IL.

Iowa City cold?? Hell, that's down south in the tropics.

It’s all a state of mind. It can just be jarring for someone outside the area. I remember walking out of my hotel in downtown Iowa City on a December morning, shivering in my wool overcoat as a young coed ran by in running shorts and a windbreaker, not a care in the world.

The athletics department is among the worst in the country. The brand is mediocre.
Right after the Mizzou game ended, I swapped over to catch the end of Iowa-Penn State. It is downright embarrassing how bad our fan support, gameday production, and on the field product is compared to Iowa.
And yes, I am part of the problem. I stayed home in KC and watched the game instead of getting my arse to Faurot. But Mizzou and the city of Columbia are so hellbent on making gameday and tailgating an awful experience, that they are starting to win.
Also, can we stop loading our home schedule up with SEMO, North Texas, and Central Michigan? fricking garbage games.

Step daughter has been accepted to Iowa and we will be heading to Iowa City on Wednesday and will catch the game Saturday.
I guess we will see.

They may not win an SEC game at all this year.....and yes, I'm including Vandy.

Sure. If you want to eliminate any chance at bowl eligiblity when we go to a 9 game SEC schedule.
