Not a commercial, but PowerMizzou is worth every penny of the $9 I spend for it every month

The ability to private message would be good.
I think the switch over to the Scoreboard and back is useless. The only thing accomplished is the loss of threads - usually heated post-game threads, at that.
Other than that, I like the forums, layouts and freedom to post what you wish.

I know the ability to PM has been discussed.

Whoa now. Slow down. You can't ban all sniping. if I or someone else says something dumb it should be allowed. It should be a self policing board for the most part. It won't be any fun if we are all holding hands and nodding in agreement. Sometimes brothers and sisters fight.
We've absolutely had our fair share of sibling spats. Not an issue. Every now and then a thread might get anchored after everyone gets it out of their system. But it has to be pretty bad for that to happen. And I don't think we've ever banned a Mizzou poster. Now if it's way over board and the higher powers (Chicken or Ice Cold) catch wind, they may ban someone from the rant entirely. I know this happened recently. But as far as I know, only one person has had Mizzou Board privileges revoked and that was a UGA fan who came in running his mouth.

I tried, but couldn't make heads or tails of TB. So I'm here and a few other places.

Would any of you be interested in a "tigerboard" with a more friendly format and slightly more moderation?
I very rarely post on TB. Most of my posts over there are during baseball season because there are a few more over there that are close to the program.
I'm with kilo as far as to the current format. It is set up for one liners and not so much for good discussion. Hard to say if I'd post over there more if the format changed. I still check it out, or at least the first page.

I agree with you. I don't have any problem with self-policing, unless the sniping gets to the point that it drives people away. It sounds like Tigerboard-esque sniping is the problem - at least, that would be where I draw a line.

I don't mind the format but the posters there are generally too horrible for any good discussion. But there is lots of traffic for better or worse.
Rock M Nation has much better posters (maybe too far the other way) but its not really a message board and what they do post about is usually so far off topic its silly. But no better site for analysis.
This place has decent posters but not really much traffic. Keep up the good work everyone!

Tigerboard is beloved by its long-time users. But anyone new tends to have issues with the format. I never warmed up to it myself.
The eventual goal of the SEC rant and its team boards is to become a one-stop shop for information about all the SEC teams. And to provide a great format for fans of individual teams to interact with each other and fans of other teams on the rant.
So, tell us how we can make this board better. What things can we do, or what features can we offer, to make it attractive? I think we have some great pieces in place already. We have some people with good inside knowledge, media presence, etc. We're trying some features like previews, and power rankings on the rant. What else would y'all like to see?
What people don't understand is that this site is one of the most popular sports site on the internet. Tigerdroppings was name dropped in some famous papers like the NY Times, or Wall Street Journal. Can't remember which one. I believe ESPN website mentioned this board. And there was times I yahoo searched a sports topic, tigerdroppings came up.

Some very astute folks running this game!! Kudos to the LSU brain child!

I don't have accounts on either of my teams' boards either, SECRant/TD FTW
(good format too).

The TD Political Talk Board is pretty bad at times

I lurk TB purely for entertainment purposes.
The football board is covered up by posters that mock critical thinkers with responses like "fire Pinkel" and "upgrade"... WeverTF that means? Ultimately the one being mocked is deemed a "beaker". They shyte Black and Gold rainbows over there.
The best by far is the basketball board. The board is hijacked by fans who still think we play in the old conference. They spend a tremendous amount of effort subtly trolling kansas fans. There's little true basketball content on there to speak of.
The shame of it is, is that it didn't use to be that way.

The biggest problem with tigerboard, ironically, is that its format doesn't lend itself to having any kind of decent or meaningful discussion about sports. Its a place for one liners where everyone strives to be a comedian or a troll.
Lack of discussion is key. I've been wanting to do post mortem writeups on games, but if I post it to tigerboard it will be off the front page in a matter of minutes. Now that I've found SECRant, I'm finishing one up on the Mizzou vs Tennessee game that I'll post here later today.

Here's the quick summary in my opinion:
Tigerboard - The original Mizzou board that was created in the 90's. That's why it has the traffic that it does despite absent ownership and no format updates. Only people that like the format is the old timers. Worthless for in-depth discussion because threads don't get bumped back to the top. Basically the twitter of message boards.
Power Mizzou - The most popular pay site for Mizzou. Good traffic. It is worth the money if you care enough about recruiting.
Rock M Nation - Great analysis, but as someone else said it is not really a message board and they get off topic quite a bit.
SEC Rant - Ideal format and traffic is growing. Nice to have other SEC fans here to talk about relevant topics.
Surprisingly this pretty much covers it. Tigerboard has such a big following simply because there are very few competitors (other than Power Mizzou which costs money).

I've been on TB for 12yrs. I've even met a few posters at games and Alumni gatherings.
When you've been on as long as I have, you figure out who the intelligent posters are and who are the idiots.
MUBobby is a legend. Had inside scoops, but has since gone silent. A TT poster knew critical info on realignment. TigerMike90 posted two days correct info on the Nubs going to B10 before it was announced.
I like the search capacity and being able to find posts from years back. Example: here is what TigerMike90 posted 2days before anybody knew about NU:
LINK
Nick does need to update the format.

I personally think this board could be the go to Mizzou board if we could just get more traffic. Unfortunately I don't have any great ideas of how to spread the word other than word of mouth. I know other boards do not like links being posted to competitors

I've been on TB almost 14 years. It's cliquey, it's filled with the same inside jokes being respun constantly, and most of the new posters are trolls.
New format would get rid of most of that by allowing real posts to be bumped to the top, but knowing the posters over there insure bumping would turn into the new way to keep inside jokes going.
I like that its basically a chat room on game days or when something is happening, I like the mob moderation or trolls, and I like being able to IM.

Very true. Personally, I don't mind the inside jokes so much, but I hate that there is no way to keep active conversations near the top of the board. I'm not able, nor do I have a desire, to do nothing but keep up with Tigerboard all day. There are definitely times where I would like to reply to a thread but I don't bother simply because I know that it won't be seen as it has already moved halfway down the page.
