re: boycotting of BYU/Mizzou game

I will not be going or watching on TV.
Except for those of us that live in Columbia, work on campus, or are students. We are now in constant danger of getting kicked out of school or losing our jobs for saying anything that hurts someone's feelings in any way - racist or not - on campus or off. Wasting our time with even more mandatory diversity / sensitivity training. Also, wasting our time to make sure we create "safe spaces" instead of doing work or academics.
These football players and shitty administration have gutted any intellectual discussions on the topic of race. They have created an environment where no white person on campus is safe and I absolutely fear for my self every time I go there. No, I am not going to get beat up, but I damn sure don't say a word to anyone outside of what I absolutely have to.

"Hello power peeps! I have been asked by a faculty member to see if people would be willing to serve as walking buddies, safe drivers, safe space providers. I think we are trying to figure out what services can be provided, what times you are available, and a method of contact for a student to get a hold of you of they need something you can provide. Please let me know--either here, fb messenger or my email xxxxx "

My kids get 50% off tuition going there and I am not sure if that is even incentive enough to let them go in a couple years.
re: Racism is now dead at Mizzou

Technically Boone County did do that. More specifically though, Columbia voted that way. Once you left the city limits the map went quite red. There is a huge divide between the University population and the local residents (that don't work for the University).

I have lot of problems with this entire thing but my biggest one is this..
The person that drew that swastika.. Why the hell is it assumed that they are racist. They have many bigger mental problems that that if they are drawing anything in FECES... What type of healthy person decides that they want to commit vandalism in poop... Maybe they only drew a swastika because they didn't have enough poop for a peace symbol...
That person has many problems and I don't even know if being a racist is their biggest one.

Nobody in their right mind would ever have commented on the Ferguson thing unless they absolutely had to. It was political suicide no matter how you responded and only a fool would have dipped into it unless they were forced to.
Support the protesters and end up looking like an overreacting idiot when the facts come out or support the cops and be labelled a heartless racist. Lose-lose situation.
The university should not have be picking sides anyway.

Last years OLine started out struggling, but ended the year the strength of the offense. Is Ricker a worse coach this year.
Ricker came in with his new blocking scheme and after the first few games last year he scrapped it and went back to what we were doing under Walker. He said he didn't have time to implement it properly and the players were more comfortable the old way - and the line got better after that.
He spent this past off season implementing his new blocking scheme. And it is still not working.
I put all of the blame for the offensive line problems squarely on Ricker for using a system that is either too complex to be run effectively, or too inadequate to work against a defensive line with warm bodies on it.
Henson is fine. Ricker needs his walking papers or someone to buy him a clue.

Lock will do fine against Florida. He practices against the best defense in the SEC every week so he should be prepared by gametime.

I expected to see:
A breakfast pancake burrito that is advertised as one of the best ever burritos whose recipe was recently rediscovered and is created from all of the best pancake mix money can buy... but when the plate shows up at your table, there is nothing there but an IOU taped to the dish.

Interest in a FFL league?
Posted by Koch Snowflake on 9/2/15 at 1:54 pm
I know this is primarily a college board, but I was wondering if the Mizzou fans here ever did a fantasy football league?
If there was interest would anyone be up for a last minute league?

Playing these types of games on the road allows the players to go on a true road game, get the routine, handle the crowd, and deal with that in an environment where there is little chance (in theory) of actually losing the game.
Get the players a true road game experience before they have to go to Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, etc.
I'm not saying it is the best idea, but it isn't a bad idea from a coaching perspective.

IMO the only way Mauk does not start this year, or gets replaced at all, would be if Printz is the one that consistently shows him up all fall.
Printz has been pretty consistent, made good decisions, and constantly runs against the number 1 defense. But has he done enough to unseat Mauk? I actually think he is much closer than people tend to give him credit for.
I don't think it has anything to do with Lock. I just think that Pinkel doesn't believe in throwing any QB out there as a true freshman. Certainly not when he has several other good options that can win games. Both Mauk and Printz are good options that know the playbook and have experience at the college level.

I don't think we've arrived as an elite program but we've arrived on the national scene.
I posted the correct answer to what you asked. Now you are just moving the target to ask a different question.
No where in your original post do you say anything about Mizzou being elite or even championships. You want to know when Mizzou will be a legitimate program. When Mizzou has arrived. When Mizzou will be a consistent winner. After the 80s and 90s that is most certainly a legitimate question but it is clear that we have most definitely arrived on the football scene again.
Mizzou is legitimate, strong, damn good football program and has consistently been one for 10 years now. Mizzou has won several division titles and produces tons of NFL talent. They are most certainly one of the top teams in all of college football. The vast majority of teams would kill to have our resume.
Now are we elite. No.
I would argue that since we have no tradition, it would take winning 2+ national titles or at minimum 3+ SEC titles before anyone outside Missouri considered Mizzou elite. We would have to "suffer" through what Oregon has been going through the past few years.
I would argue that Oregon right now is elite, however until they win it all they will always hear about USC and UCLA being down. Was Florida elite before the 90s? It took several titles for them to earn that rep.
Also, if you want to feel better about the team, go back through those same last 10 years and cherry pick out the good games instead of the bad ones. There are many more good ones than bad.

There is no "S" on the end of Chase Daniel.
:banghead:
We are a legit program. Period.
Averaging 9.1 wins a year for 10 years now is damn consistent. Period.
End of discussion.

re: Just how good is Gary Pinkel, really?

No $4+M
That's not too bad an ROI compared to what some are paying coaches for average results.
He just got that raise this year, last year he made just over 3 million.
Fun fact: Pinkel and Spurrier are the only two coaches to be the all time winningest coach at two different schools.
Also, Pinkel learned how to coach from the same person that Saban did (Don James). They share a system style to a large degree. Saban had things that changed his style to fit his needs and Pikel did as well. The most stunning thing that happened to Pinkel by far was the death of Aaron O'Neal in 2004. He had a player die during practice and after that he became much more open to his players, more personable, and much less rigid about things.
People talk about 'we do what we do' as his system and that he recruits players that fit his style, but that is an over simplification. Pinkel adapts. He is probably the only coach in college football that has presided over his teams (MU) all time best rushing total football team ('13) and all time best passing total football team ('08).
He takes the recruits he gets and finds their strengths and adapts to make his teams successful. His coaches have been with him forever and they all tend to help identify things that work and then they go out and do it.
But as a MU fan, I don't think it can be stressed enough just how bad MU was up through 2001. When Pinkel took over he had 1 scholarship CB/Safety on the team. Yes, it took him some time to get going, but man, it was really, really bad.
I would compare him a lot to the job James Franklin was doing at Vandy. Given enough time, he took a Vandy like program and started winning division titles.

Because he was passed over for the Mizzou job in favor of Pinkel a couple months earlier. If that wasn't the case he would probably still be the head coach at MU. He is a good coach.

re: DGB: What a waste of talent.

ESPN has a penchant for running stories on MU because they already have a lot of data on us so it is little work to just add us into any narrative. They are lazy.
Between Derrick Washington, Michael Dixon, and DGB they have enough to make us look bad for years. Add to that the Menu-Corey story and its a culture of rape.
It doesn't matter if any other athlete at MU never did anything wrong, those 4 things would give ESPN enough ammo for almost any story.

It is also worth note to say that UT has had 3 consecutive losing seasons once over the last century (2011-2013). So, you caught UT at the lowest cycle since William Howard Taft was in office. Congratulations.
Still, if anything you guys keep saying to look at the history of football.
At one time, Tennessee was decent and winning titles, and during the exact same time period Mizzou was enduring some of the worst football ever played in a power conference and still...
Even during that time, Tennessee never beat Mizzou.
*shrug*
re: Early SEC Rant Predictions on Tennessee's Excuse...

Well, by studying the history of college football we learned that Tenn has never, not once, ever beaten Mizzou at football.
But you are correct that it does go in cycles, so maybe at some point, Tenn will luck out and win a game. Mizzou will probably have some bad cycles where they lower to a level where Tenn can win a game. Hell, it almost happened in 2012 (Mizzou's worst team in many years).
Keep your chin up and try to remember... its just a game.

That is the troll in the thread.. Mizzou is actually a 'soda' school but he is misreading the map (or maybe doesn't really know where Columbia is)
