Kiffin v. Sumrall... how do you think we've done so far with our recent coach selection?

Kiffin goes to LSU
Florida settles for Sumrall

I'm not naive enough to know we all wanted Kiffin. But the past 6 months have been quite interesting.

Do we still want the Kiffin drama attached to our brand?

Or has Sumrall done/said enough to say, "let's see what this guy can do in the fall"?

Missing on Kiffin has been easier to stomach with Sumrall’s first few months on the job. I like his demeanor, candidness with detail, and recruiting efforts/capabilities so far. Wins will of course determine the end result but I like where we are at today.

I wouldn't mind the drama if we had him here, and still wish we would've gotten him, although I'm not completely sold that he can get out of his own way and put together a complete season and win a championship.
I am definitely a fan of Sumrall, but also acknowledge that we "settled". I'm 100% on board now, and absolutely say "let's see what this guy can do in the fall?"

I would take Kiffin and us spending on NIL what LSU is spending.

I do think Sumrall will do good with what he has though. I almost think we could really compete pretty good this season but that LT spot may be a real big issue and that is one big issue you don't want to have in SEC play. Hopefully someone can step up by the time the season starts.

I was very mad at how badly we screwed up the coaching search

But I like the guy we got personality wise and he put together a very good staff.

I am not too mad anymore about the search myself. The bottom line is we weren't going to promise to spend what LSU did when it came to NIL etc so looking back we were never really in it for Kiffin because of that. I think Sumrall was the best coach available we could get for sure. Would be nice to see Kiffin struggle though at LSU.

My anger is that we did not fire Napier the year before

All we had to do to not get Sumrall
Was not let him coach Tulane in the playoff

Wow.if he could have turned down the Florida job because of his blow out loss to Ole miss

Then we should have let him be

He said he would not have taken the job if Florida did let him get destroyed

Not sure I feel so good about him any longer
Such a bush league thing to say

We should have let him stay at Tulane

i get your point of view, but the overall situation was stupid. Sumrall would have been just as stupid as Kiffin was if he had abandoned his team and never coached in the playoff.

They had very little chance. I would bet they have 30+ draft picks on that team(over 4 or 5 years obviously) while Sumerall probably had 1-3..and probably 6th or 7th rounders.

Once you say yes to a school to be there coach
Then the place you are at is irrelevant

Once you agree to take a job elsewhere that is your job and the job you had is not your job any longer

If you take another job and you go put in your 2 weeks notice and they tell you no need just go
Are you going to be upset about? Obviously not because you already signed on for your new job

I feel the same with coaches if you sign the contract to take a job elsewhere, then the place you were at is no longer your job

You should have been at Florida the day you said yes to Stricklin

You didn't belong in the playoff and should never have been there to receive the Butt kicking you ended up getting deservedly so

I hope he leaves Florida sooner then later
Im 100% against him now
Nothing he does going forward will make any difference to me or change my opinion

Great attitude! Please find another team to pull for. Negagators are a cancer to the program.

I think he was just saying that to sound loyal to his players there etc and he would have taken the job if forced to leave sooner. It's easy for him to say that now when he wasn't in that situation.

I think Kiffin was mostly forced by Ole Miss not to coach in the playoff. Pretty sure LSU would have allowed it if Kiffin insisted on it.

That is not being negative
That is how I truly feel

So if you don't like it Matt , I don't really care!!!

Ill be negative about Sumrall on every post I make the whole summer, if that will make you feel better

It is just sad to me to think that I would support a team and every day wake up feeling negative about them. I'm just not wired that way, if that was the case, I would find another team to pull for. So enjoy your misery! I'll just blow sunshine and believe, until proven wrong that the Gators will be undefeated and win the Natty with CJS being named COY.
What a great way to start the day. Go Gators!!!

I mean give him a chance at least..I do not think anyone would consider me a homer..I have been very, very out-spooken on how much I hate Napier and Scott S..but even I say it is way to early to judge him..

He nailed the hiring Assistants part so far. So that lessened my anger some.

Yep I like what I see so far. Napier I went big negative on after year 2 but made the mistake of believing Lagway was a lot better than he was (ignoring the fans of other teams and a few of our own saying his big plays were made when things were easy and the SEC would quickly adjust to him as it appears he struggles reading defenses) and thinking we might actually have a good team in 2025. I won't make that mistake again and in the era of NIL you should know by the end of year 2 if the coach is going to be cut out for the SEC or not.

The whole i would not have taken the job if I couldn't get gang raped by Ole miss just doesn't sit well with me at all

Im sorry I just can not like a guy that said he would not be at Florida if we didn't let him coach his old team in the playoffs

If he wants to be at Tulane so bad then fricking go back

To choose to stay at Tulane ( if could not have coached in the playoffs) then be at Florida
He should have stayed there
Sorry ill never be om with that statement and as A Florida fan
I could never be ok with any coach naking that statement cone here and do yiur fricking job or don't come here at all

I think you are making too much out of it and I don't believe him to be honest as I think he just wanted to play up the team guy stuff. If UF or another big SEC program told him he had to leave then he would have imo. Now someone in Kiffins situation could have forced a team like LSU or us to wait on him even if we didnt want to but I don't blame Ole Miss for not letting him coach the playoff when they knew he was leaving.
