I'm done with White

He doesn't deserve another year. This is just like Mac and the defenses fans use for him are the same. His recruiting class though...he made an elite eight though...some players did well though...
Done. This offense is embarrassingly bad and it is directly because of him. This stand till the driver creates is a very elementary offense that every defense can defend with ease unless you hit tough shots constantly.
Struggling with a bad Georgia team because they made adjustments and this dumb arse didn't. White isn't a good coach. Get him out and bring in a proven one. Dude doesn't know what he is doing and it's clear as day just like it was with Mac. White constantly looks lost and confused. Because he literally doesn't have a clue.

He knows more than me. Most of the posters here do as well for that matter. I’ll just sit back and watch some bad basketball for now

He knows more than all of us, but not enough to beat other coaches. That’s the issue. He compared to other SEC coaches is well behind and it’s clear as day

By double digits. It was ugly though

Im amused that this is White's first "down" year at UF, and everyone is calling for his head.
They play as hard as frick for White.
The football team CLEARLY did not for McElwain.
This is such a dumb comparison.

sigh, you guys are going to turn me into White fans at this point
He's obviously got weaknesses but wanting him gone after one "down" year (where we still could pretty realistically make the tournament) with a Top 10 class coming in is pretty emotional and silly

See, I don't look at it as 1 down year. I see all 3 years as not reaching full potential. Elite 8 is great but that team should have made the Final 4. White did a poor coaching job in a game they should have won. Yes, it's basketball and losing happens but his in game adjustments are, well, he doesn't have any in game adjustments. His offense is shite and his teams have ZERO fire or energy. They go into long scoring droughts consistently and play down to their opponent.
I just don't see him being able to out coach anyone at a high level. That's my main concern. He's learning on the job and it is evident. Can he learn in crunch time in big games? I don't think so. So if I don't see him ever cutting down the nets, why put off what should be done now? Because of a recruiting class that he most likely won't coach up?

Shark fricker had 1 down year as well. I don't care about wins and losses as much as I care about progress. Are players getting better. Are they growing in a system that is sustainable? I don't see them playing hard for White??? Where are you seeing that? I see guys unemotional, lethargic and little passion. What am I missing?
Guys would go through walls for Zook. They loved that man. He could recruit his arse off. Unfortunately, he was an average at best football coach that should have never been at UF. I want White to be successful but I just don't see it.

I just think he is too nice. We will see. I am rooting for him though. Hope we win out.

That team makes the Final 4 if Egbunu doesn’t go down mid season.

quote:No offense, but this is an awful, awful take. That wasn't an elite team that had no business losing in the round it did; South Carolina was just the better team at the time and was playing really good basketball. We were a bit lucky to get out of the Sweet Sixteen against Wisconsin, for what it's worth.
Elite 8 is great but that team should have made the Final 4.
And I mean Donovan had three straight years of losing in the Elite Eight at the end of his tenure before cracking through. Two of those games were pretty bad chokes (Butler and Louisville), and the other was an embarrassing blowout (Michigan).
I think any season in which you make the Elite Eight is a success, and if you disagree, go root for Kentucky or Duke.
Again, I have concerns about White too and I've voiced them pretty freely, but it's way too early to be talking about going in a different direction. His seat isn't even warm right now, realistically. He's going to be here next season unless his team quits and there's a death threats moment, which won't happen, because White is pretty composed and mature, unlike McElwain.

And then our fans lost their minds when UConn went on one of their fluky runs when Donovan actually got them to the FInal 4

And........................Florida fans continue to turn on coaches, too quickly. But, what else is new?

I don't believe I have turned on him. I still hope he is successful at UF and I am rooting for him. I don't like his comments about how he doesn't like having to motivate the team in practice and that they should naturally bring the intensity every day. I get that he wants that, but at some point you have to understand what you have and coach them accordingly. Some players you have to light a fire under, and some you have to hold back a little bit or they will burn themselves out. For him to criticize publicly is fine and one way to motivate them is though the press, but he came off whiny imo.
It's like when Urban cried after his first game in Baton Rouge. I was like, dude come on, you may not be cut out for this. Little did I know he was and wasn't at the same time.

I personally wasn’t and I’m not saying White should be fired. It’s just not what I was hoping to see this year. Granted it’s early in the season and all. I don’t like seeing the team seem to lose focus and the lead late in games. On the other hand we are learning to battle till the end.
Let’s hope the team can minimize the dry spells in the 2nd halves and win the close games.

Your opinion on this doesn't matter because you thought Chip Kelly was coming to Florida.
Give Mike White 2 more years to see what he can do with his players. That's about all I am willing to do right now unless he turns this team around.

quote:I never like the "his players" argument in basketball, though. It's his fourth year; most of these guys are "his players," and if they were originally Donovan recruits, they never played under Donovan, but were good enough to stick around (Kevaughn, Hayes, and Stone are the only ones).

I think we could be very good next season only losing Allen, Hudson, and Hayes and bringing in the recruiting class we are. Hudson has been a non-factor this season and Allen will be missed but Locke is already pretty good at the same position and Tre Mann can light it up. I'm more worried about losing Hayes but hopefully Bassett continues to get better, Stokes can get in shape, and Payne adjusts quickly. We have the bodies, at least.

I'll bookmark this thread for when Mike White turns this around (already beginning) and starts to figure things out.
