From what I’ve read, the main concerns are that he doesn’t have a doctorate, doesn’t have a lot of experience in fundraising for research initiatives, and apparently didn’t come with super strong referrals from his time at UCF. That’s just what I’ve read.
Just saying, in a year where we’ve seen our AD and major programs greatly regress and our school decide to stupidly switch to being known as “UofSC”, having the governor force through a candidate where the BOT couldn’t even unanimously support him to become president would just be the icing on the cake.

She gets a ton of hate for leading the charge to remove the Confederate flag. That hate still lingers with her post-governor.

In 2000, every anti-flag legislator agreed to move it to the Confederate monument on the grounds of the State House. Less than 2 decades later, those same folks reneged on that promise by using the dead bodies of several people to drive a political issue.
And in 10 years, they'll want the Confederate soldiers monument gone. And then they'll want Washington's statue gone. And then it will be every USC building and statue of anyone prior to 1970.
They want history erased man. And Haley put her own political ambitions over safeguarding that. She gave an inch to the SJW's and they've already taken miles. Statues and monuments all across this country have come down in droves due to her actions. Seriously, frick Nikki Haley.

Yes she is. I hosted her and Martha Stewart during one of their visits here, during a particular portion of their tour, and they were fun and perky but yeah .... they are best friends and Darla is an old school Democrat who has moved progressively farther left over the years.
Darla Moore is a good woman. She is incredibly intelligent and demanding and she can even be somewhat abrasive. But the woman is undeniably very powerful and once her husband died she became one of the most powerful and influential women in the country. She's worth billions and she knows how to use her money. She's been very generous to the UofSC in ways most are unaware of ... and she still holds a grudge against Nikki Haley and rightfully so imho.
This search is now officially politicized and it will all likely not end well. It's a shame. The media wants to make a big deal out of the liberal benefactors but there are just as many conservative benefactors that are now alienated and this has become so politicized that the university will lose no matter which way it goes at this point.
Matter of fact their fundraising arm is already getting a lot of negative feedback with both sides taking a wait and see approach.
Pastides had already alienated a lot of conservative benefactors and all of this is only going to make it worse.
