Curtis is 100% correct imho.
He is speaking for 1000s of us whose donations add-up and exceed Darla Moore's.
If most people only understood this powergrab that is underway and who it is being orchestrated by and why, more friends and alumni would be against what is transpiring here.
This has become, technically, a war for the future heart of the university. If the left succeeds athletics will suffer greatly. Other programs, within the university, will also suffer as funds meant to be directed toward initiatives aimed at us becoming an accredited research university instead are redirected towards higher professor salaries and increases in tenures awarded.
We have a great opportunity to become one of the leading institutions in energy research, specifically energy storage .... batteries. And we are about to completely blow it.
Pastides moved us to the brink, alienated a lot of donors and he is now one of several who are orchestrating this shite show.
A lot of us have now made inquiries into how to withdraw our pledges from the guardian society ... and that's going to be an even bigger shite show once it hits the fan because we all have Pastides videos of him telling us In The Zone a few Februarys ago that if we didn't like the direction he was taking to just "take our damn money back." I was sitting right there when he said it.
That was the beginning of it all. Now this is where we are.

Yeah, I just saw. The vote was 11-8.
I don't see how anybody can feel good about this.

If he fires Ray Tanner, maybe he can build some more support.

Something we can all agree on.
I think that the search could have had some more transparency, maybe a few more candidates, but to completely discredit this guy before he steps in the door the first day is not the right move, IMO.
Reminds me of when a coach gets hired and the guy you wanted gets past up. People get pissed, but with some success, the attitude and mood will change. Guess we have to wait and see.

Taking the "culture wars" part of this completely out of the discussion that has come from some like Curtis Loftis...
The uneasiness from the faculty and research part of the university is totally understandable in my opinion. There were other finalists with way more experience in research.

People are saying this dudes gonna cut our spending and athletics is gonna be first.
Please god tell me this isnt true. I dont know dick about this guy or any of them and i dont care. I just need football the same.
If youre gonna cut something cut the art department. My buddy is an art grad and he cant get a decent job.
frick ART GIMME MORE FOOTBALLS!!!!!
Also, important point**** Clemsons old president hated football, when he left, miraculaously they become great and nationally relevant. Good sports means more money everywhere.

He's not cutting athletics I can guarantee you that.
He is going to cut waste and he is going to raise the bar for being awarded tenure and he is going to curtail the marxist and socialist propaganda being famously spewed by some of our current faculty .... three or four in particular. They already know their asses are on the line with several of them getting their resumes updated today on LinkedIn.

Disagree completely
They definitely don’t like the military, of course they wouldn’t say that
Pretty wild really. Never seen it before like this and this is the first

I’d cut the business school and give it all to the football team if it meant a national title
I’m being serious
Even the “lauded” international business
Just gimme Urban

My favorite statement in the "discussion" so far...
quote:
The best leaders have three qualities: 1. Technical Skills, 2. People Skills (Persuasion, diplomacy and affability), 3. Conceptual Skills (Vision, strategic thinking and courage). Military service teaches these things in spades. So in your mind in which one of these qualities is he deficient? Where's your evidence that he's deficient in that skill or is it just insecurity with a previously unknown commodity?

That's not something he is going to tackle straight out of the chute. There are more important pigs to skin.
Tanner is beloved by many. I don't necessarily agree with him most of the time, as a matter of fact I disagree with him most of the time .... but Ray is in a safe place for the time being.
It's some of the radical faculty that has to be reigned in. Pastides encouraged some of them to go too far.
And for gosh sake we must quit throwing millions at the gender studies program. Put it back in the psychology department and treat it as a discipline to be studied in a scientific manner as it was meant to be. Not as a seperate department receiving massive funds for the sake of political correctness to attract gender confused students and transvestite associate professors.

I did.
So far the sky is falling crowd can come up with no logical reason to discredit Caslen other than "he's served in the military his entire career."
I've tried to point out that our military leaders, and particularly our flag level commanders, are likely the most highly trained folks on the planet for just this type of multi-level operational environment.
Nobody has supplied a sufficient (any) retort to the supposition.

From the same site who said we’d beat Clemson And UGA last year and win 9 games this year
I don’t know much about this guy. But I’m not gonna day anything and about the military ever
Shouldn’t and shouldn’t ever.
I got no military background so I don’t like to talk about things I don’t know

You don't need a military background to study leadership concepts. My only military background is 4 years of ROTC in Charleston. But I've read and studied more than a little bit about it, and in my mind, the U.S. Military has done more research on the science and psychology of leadership than just about any other organization on Earth. If we are taking about an organization that breeds leadership, in my mind, that's it.
The point I was trying to make over there is the skills that it takes to be a 3* general, are the same ones that it takes to lead a University (or any other large organization. You have to have the technical knowledge, the people skills and a strategic vision. I'm sure SC's new president has all of these things.
People need to chill and let things play out a little bit.
