Peak South Carolina if they break the news to everyone before university officials

because every student will stay home and self quarantine instead of use the extra week to travel more and party in other places before returning to campus

It's coming just watch. First it's Universities then public schools, soon to follow will be all non essential government workers.

You already see the Universities expanding time off and most likely going to online classes. I can tell you they are already discussing closing schools for a period of time and government agencies will run the bare minimum and we will have to go online for what we need.
Public perception plays a big part in this. Americans will follow the media constantly speaking on the fears and it will have agencies having knee jerk reactions.

Isn't it a federal law that banks can only be closed a certain amount of days continuously?

Oh and the public school districts, here in SC, are discussing closing for certain amounts of towns.

Im not really sure about "bank laws" to be fair.
we/I don't operate under normal bank laws. Like MLK day is a "bank holiday" but I work in international equities. Sure US stocks don't trade but our clients trade other stuff.
So in reality the BBs don't ever close.
I do know that the market cannot be closed for 2 weekdays in a row.
It's why Christmas Eve, Black friday, NYE etc aren't Market holidays.

Yes - no more than three days at a row unless there is a pandemic or natural disaster. I’ve worked in banking for 11 years, and we had to tread around this in 2011 when part of our market was slammed by a snow storm with no warmup. Issues like this require approval.
