Going back to the discussion about whether we were or we're not going to play that game all along ... or a 12th game for that matter.

Saturday night was sort of an easy night for us in the Cockaboose. A lot of fans were missing, quite a few Cockabooses were not open. We had a lot of people we had not seen in awhile drop in for a visit and a drink.

(I haven't been posting a lot in here since the dust-up about whether we were always going to play a 12th game or not ... because I knew my source and knew he was right.)

So we're sitting in there after the game and some VIPs come in to show some guests around and they have a drink or two and I decide to get to the bottom of it. Didn't take long before my guy was validated.

Here's why.

As I stated earlier there was no absolute plan to play a 12th game. Had we beaten A&M we probably would not have ... it would not have been a priority. Tanner waited too long to make a decision.

As it was explained to me Saturday, it's causing some real issues now.

#1 We immediately offered refunds for the Marshall game. This is an important point. They didn't tell us to hold onto our tickets, they didn't say swap them out for a later game, they immediately said we should request refunds.

#2 IF a 12th game was going to be played the SOP is to either hold onto the Marshall tickets and use them for access into the 12th game, or exchange them for 12th game tickets. As it was explained to me the Marshall tickets would have been the wise way to go because only a little tweet in the bar code readers would have been necessary to make those tickets work fine ... would have saved on printing expenses as well.

#3 They are about to take a major revenue hit for that game because, as of today the refunds have far exceeded the requests for replacement tickets. They are saying they are hoping to pack the lower bowl but we're not all going to get our regular seats ... now they're scrambling. So either they give everyone their regular seats and it looks like the stadium is empty and spattered, or they reassign for this one game and pack everyone into the lower bowl. This has become a logistical nightmare on several fronts. Really bad move.

All because they never planned on playing a 12th game ... especially if we beat A&M.

Tanner was left scrambling and now it's a shite show. We'll be lucky to have 35k there.

My guy was right all along and everything changed the Saturday after but it was piss poor planning by Tanner.

Again, I like Ray okay but he's got his major flaws. This one might blow up in his face before all is said and done because there is going to be a big revenue hit. Some think a million dollar hit.

Now, IF we somehow beat Clemson then things will change and fans will turn-out in droves. That's a big IF.

TV was glad to have us though.

35k is extremely generous. Hopefully they learned their lesson on this one. It’s gonna be an ugly sight on the 1st.

South Carolina will refund the full game price for all tickets purchased for last week’s canceled football game with Marshall, the school announced Wednesday.

I knew as soon as USC announced a refund in September that the Ath Dept was in dissaray with how to proceed in regards to the circumstances at hand.

it's hard to believe our Ath Dept couldn't grasp this option as being the most logical. a refund announced at a later date is perfectly fine and allows for some time/room to make decisions in a fluid situation. if the 12th game is never played, the Ath Dept could have offered fans a choice to apply money paid towards bowl tickets, or a refund in December.

beyond the loss of ticket revenue, I suspect USC is paying far more to Akron than what Marshall originally agreed upon as well.

as always Rooster, appreciate your insight/info you offer to the board.

Vs having to refund the Marshall tickets without a makeup game?

I dunno and don't really care that much. I don't have a dog in the fight. I suspect that with a new president coming in Ray will likely get a pass in the end.

Tanner pretty much disputed all of this already. It's already over probably best to let it drop.

No disrespect Mr. Rooster but how did Tanner go from waiting to long and you telling us on a friday that no 12th game but it changes the next day and by Monday we have our game? So Tanner waited until Saturday to find a team and had one immediately? The logistics and timeline don't fit with the story and according to Ray, who would have more insight than any of our sources, this is not how it happened and he had been working on it for awhile. Is it possible that some of your contacts don't care for RT and could be using this to sow seeds of doubt?

If they were smart, they'd just off the tickets for the Akron Game as General Admission. Just sit where you want.

They should drop the price to $20 and do a 2 for 1 in the concessions.

I thought of this on my drive in this AM and I agree.

Wouldn't you expect he'd hire one of his own guys?

Normally that's what happens when a new GM is hired on a professional team. Not sure how much similar it is, so I'm asking

Lets just say Ray has made some good friends on the board of trustees.

Of course he did, how else would he get the job in the first place?

If he wants to get anything done, he better. Politics in every aspect of life. If you ruffle the feathers, you will end up on an island.

100% agree and trust me Ray has been around long enough to know the ends and outs. He isn't the dummy some would have you believe.

Don't think he's a dummy at all.
He's a politician and got the job in the first place. To be able to land the gig with literally no experience shows that he knows how to BS

It wouldn't make any difference at all. I remember thinking the 2010 game against Troy would be packed coming off winning the division at Florida the week before and the place was still a relative ghost town. I'll be there, but this whole thing has been a clusterfrick.

Tanner waited while assuming we would beat A&M. We lost ... it changed the next day. We did not have our game by Monday. Everyone else did, but not us. Ours was not official for almost three weeks afterwards ... or three Mondays, whichever came first. :)

Ok, whatever. But it's not.

It wasn't until after the A&M loss that he started getting pressure and was told to fix it. Charles Waddell saved his arse ... that's all I'm going to say about that. Waddell often saves his arse.

No, grown men don't play those kind of games. Women and cuck soy boys play those kind of games.

I harbor no ill will towards Ray Tanner except he is hubristic and needs to lose some of that ego of his. He would be a much better AD if he did. We've stroked his ego far too much here and he's let it go to his head. This was a bush league move.

Now, with regard to a question someone asked above about general admission tickets. That's been discussed and that's what they intended to do as of a couple of weeks ago but you've got big boosters out there who are pissed that they're not getting their regular seats and that seats are being assigned, then not assigned, then general admission .... it's a shite show.

They'll need 35k to fill the lower bowl ... for a nooner.

They never planned to play a 12th game.
