It's my understanding that some very good discussions took place over the past couple days. And that lawyers from USC and Muschamp are talking today. But those won't be full on "negotiations".

Also, it sounds like Auburn might be out because Malzhan is so young and Muschamp is looking at either a program he can take over or the NFL. It appears the discussions with USC today will be focused on contractual triggers if Muschamp isn't the head coach in X number of years and he hits certain performance metrics with the defense.

fun stuff, he heard it from someone who heard it from someone else...

They are quoting some of us over in that thread, this will probably get quoted too later.

I hate being wrong - it always brings into question what people are telling me and makes me go, "why did you tell me that?" But I seriously hope I was wrong in this case - I seriously hope we pull this off. There definitely appears to be reverberations that might indicate Spurrier finally got off his keister and got to work recruiting Boom - but I dunno, I'll still be shocked but I samn sure hope it happens.

Listen, this would be a major coup not only for his coaching ability and the recruiting potential and the other couple of coaches he may, or may not, bring with him - but in the bigger, overall picture and scheme of things ... this would be a massive, massive hire for us and would put us in the category of the big boys, status wise, from a perception standpoint.

I'd also just like to say I was alive to see SPURier and mUSChamp on the sidelines both in garnet and black at the same time.

yeah, the one thing we should remember is that auburn's insider claimed it was a done deal and that there would be rumors like these going around until next week. So he might have been in the know the whole time...or he could've just been trying to control the narrative...or he could've had someone lie to his face...who knows. Nobody knows shite until it's announced.

This crap bugs me. Every job i ever went to nobody knew until i quit and I had people i discussed it with. I don't see how coaches would be any different. Of course i didn't have an agent or a contract. I still think those involved would be trusted to keep quiet.
Then on the other side why do people just make up the crap out of the blue.

Anyway, not going to get to excited yet. I once watched a press conference that a coach was coming and he still didn't show up.

I'll tell y'all a little secret.

The day Holtz was hired I had gotten a call earlier that morning to be at the stadium at such-and-such a time, but I blew it off. Instead, I pulled over in Lexington and knocked on the door and got the guy that used to own Wings behind the old post office to let me in to watch the press conference on the TV in there before they opened. Shooshed the guy's wife, got her pissed-off at me and he told her to shut up too ... lol, what a day that turned-out to be.

The day he resigned or was fired or whatever, I was up in the coaches' offices picking-up a football that all the coaches had signed for me the day Holtz quit basically ... and everyone signed it but Holtz because he copped an attitude that last day and told Rita he wasn't sighing anymore balls, he was doing his press conference and leaving with Beth. (He later signed it for me, by mail from Orlando, and apologized for that day, but he left a bunch of footballs unsigned so I felt sort of privileged.)

Anyway, I stood right beside Lou, I mean immediately to his right within arm's distance at the podium where he wanted me, during his departure speech in the Letterman's lounge.

Fast forward to the rumors about Spurrier ... I had been hearing them for about a week or so from some very close insiders - but I kept laughing them off. It wasn't until I called Em to speak with with Mike and found-out where he was at that time that I realized it might be happening.

So anyways, the Spurrier press conference and I get invited and I'm sitting next to Ainsley Earhardt in the front row where Mike and Kerry put me and as I am sitting there listening to "why not us" I got to thinking about how many times I had heard over the course of the previous few weeks that Spurrier was coming ... including an infamous call from a friend who was doing work on a house that Spurrier was going to live in, supposedly. Anyways, after his stint up at the podium In The Zone, I get grabbed and pulled over to this folding table at the west end of In The Zone and sat down in a squatting position on the floor with my back against the wall and told to not let anyone crowd their way in on Spurrier ... especially smokers. So I'm sitting there and they bring Spurrier over and I get introduced to him and then they sit him down at that folding table and the crazy stuff begins as people swamp him with questions. I just sort of squatted there looking out at the crowd and thinking ... wow, we're getting there, we're gonna be big time one day.

I had waited for it for a long time.

Now, present day.

It wasn't so much about getting Holtz or Spurrier ... I mean getting them was big but the bigger thing was pulling-it-off. It validated us both times and that's a big thing in the eyes of the CFB world.

Well, with as much hype leading up to this, far more than either Holtz or Spurrier in terms of the speculation and the bidding wars and all of that ... this would be big, IF we can sign Boom. This is actually a publicized bidding war against the Aubies and the ATMers, even though I will never consider aTm superior to SC in anything ... this has far more people on the edge of their seats.

My point is this.

Recruits do take notice, and so do boosters, sports writers, prognosticators, et al. Landing Boom would be huge, worth millions of dollars in various ways. So I'll keep my fingers crossed but I'll still be shocked.

I was a sophomore at USC when we hired Spurrier. I will never forget the buzz around campus when the rumors started swirling that he may be our head coach.

I would not be so shocked.

Either way it's amazing where your program has come to be. A legitimate power. In the conversations, can't ask for more....imo

I saw an old gamecock qb compete in high school, I may of actually been younger, but followed him into college and saw how dedicated a fan base SCAR had.

Foundations have been built, so don't hesitate to be shocked.

Americus ... you have to be talking about Dan Reeves?

So you are my age?

I know Dan and his brother ... I could call Coach right now and talk to him and we'd talk for awhile.

Trivia question to test your knowledge. What is Dan's brother (Roy's) nickname? He also played at South Carolina.

Another trivia "bonus" question.

What big time well-known NFL great credits Dan Reeves with forcing him to be who he became ... by forcing him to hit the weight room and gain weight? The player I am talking about also has a big time connection to South Carolina. Hint: He too was/is a Georgia boy.

I would not expect any kind of real breaking news today about Muschamp. We may hear something on Sunday, but it might not come till Monday. That is of course if we hear anything at all , and it doesn't take another week or two for Muschamp to process his NFL offers.

I'm in my mid 30's, but was raised by some sports crazed folks. My Grandfather had his fifth heart attack and passed at an Americus High game in '72.
He would of loved to see the teams that followed and dominated in the mid 70's (1975 team gave up 8 total points all year). Hopefully one day I can have a conversation with him about football.

The QB I was referencing was Pinkins.

I've only heard Mr. Roy called Butch

The easier one would be Sharpe, who imo is the greatest TE to play in the NFL. His brother wasn't too shabby either.

Dondriel (sp) with his pet bulldog. I was at the last GA/FL high school all star game in Daytona (in the pouring down rain - Boo Williams), and the first one played in the Georgia Dome where Dondrial won the punt, pass and kick contest. Great athlete ... could be dumber than dirt at times.

Roy will always be Butch to me.

Yep ... Shannon Sharpe when he got to Denver, I think it was Chan Gailey who was OC at the time who begged Reeves to keep Shannon, but Coach told me he agreed as long as Shannon would increase his bench and squat and gain thirty pounds or so.

I've heard Sharpe tell a similar story. We had Shannon committed too but couldn't get him qualified.

Dondrial ... man he cost us a game or two but I liked that kid. I was sort of his sponsor you might say, in a way .... what is he doing now?

I'm old enough to be a tweener between your Dad and Granddad. I've got two of my kids who are older than you. But I really like you younger people who follow the game and the players and the programs closely. It's an admirable and honorable hobby and worth doing.

My brothers and I joke that our Dad and Uncles were recruitnics and students of the game in the 30s and 40s .... but we're serious.

Some more moving parts from late this week, more "some people will like it, some won't."

Again it's all speculation, but 247 is saying that speculation is making some of our committed recruits uneasy. ( I HIGHLY doubt any recruits read our board on SECr though, and I'm just repeating what's been written/speculated on other boards and in social media.)

We all knew that there was a solid chance that some def asst coaches were going to get let go, or be encouraged to find employment elsewhere. The names we've talked about are Deke, Botkin and JoeRob.

However, it looks like Grady is not safe either. Grady has been one of our better recruiters, and he got the DB's playing better as the season went on. So this was a surprise to me that I've read several times that he might be out and Muschamp would be bringing Travaris Robinson with him. Travaris is an elite recruiter and considered one of the best recruiters on UF's staff. He got Purifoy and Roberson, as well as several other elite targets. I can see the appeal, but he was also AT Florida, so it shouldn't be that hard to get top recruits from florida schools.

There is also a shot that DJ Durkin could come as well, but I have a harder time buying that. He's big time on both coaching and recruiting, and he's a lock, IMO, to be the DC at uf...unless him and their new HC just don't mesh well. If that's the case, we could get Durkin, but it will cost $. He's making almost $500K at florida right now.

Coleman Hutzler is florida's Spec Team coach, florida ranked higher than us in every spec team category. He's a candidate to come over as well.

Like I said, some of our committed recruits are feeling uneasy about all these comments/threads/speculation, but I don't think any read this board and I'm not writing anything that hasn't already been posted somewhere for 24 hours. It's all just speculation.

No way any commits read this board.

I'd like to keep Grady Brown unless Travaris is taking is place

Not sure. The high school he went to split into two separate schools and Americus High merged with another school, so no longer region opponents. We lost years of rivalries with the merger.
