This is where we are as a program
the highlight so far for the men's big 3 this academic sports year is football won 7 games this season - a season we got our arse cut 34-0 at W-B by Dabo Swinney.

Kingston's SEC record

2018 17-13
2019 8-22 <--- worst ever for USC in SEC play
2020 n/a
2021 16-14
2022 ??-??

can Kingston salvage even 6 league wins this year? he already owns the only season USC has not won double-digit SEC games since we joined in 1992.

I was kind of behind Kingston initially, but am now thinking we need not only a new basketball coach but a new baseball coach as well

Bigger issue is we need a new AD.

Chances we get even one win this weekend?

I have high doubts.

We’re in the dark days of Gamecock baseball fellas

Fanbase doesn't even care about baseball anymore. It is shocking to say that, but it is true.

5 losses in a row

1 win in March

If y’all are masochists, I’m keeping a tracker of basic W/L stats in the first reply on page 1

seems the freshman LHP from Chapin was serious when he chose to wear 29 at Carolina. he had his "Roth" moment today.

Becker so good beating Texas nobody's even thinking about the commanding day Will Sanders had beating Texas.

- not sorry for the wall of text that follows -

quote:

When Matthew Becker was 12, he got the chance to be a batboy for a handful of South Carolina baseball games.

For Becker, a lifelong Gamecock fan, that was one of the cooler experiences he had growing up.

Now he has the chance to play for South Carolina as the team’s newest commitment in the 2021 class.

“I’ve been a lifelong fan since I could walk,” he said. “I was a batboy when I was 12 and always wanted to be a Gamecock.”

Becker officially committed to South Carolina Tuesday, announcing his decision publicly on Twitter.

Growing up in South Carolina and going to Chapin High School roughly 30 minutes from campus, he always had an affinity for playing for the Gamecocks. So when Mark Kingston and the staff offered he didn’t wait long to commit.

“It meant the world to me. It’s been my dream,” he said. “I’ve always worked towards being a Gamecock. I’m really excited.”

The 6-foot-3 lefty jumped on the Gamecocks’ radar about a year ago but his recruitment ratcheted up after a dominant start to his junior season before Coronavirus shut things down.

A year ago, his fastball was topping out around 85 miles per hour and as he began his junior year he was touching 90 miles per hour and his breaking pitches progressed dramatically as well.

That’s what attracted the Gamecocks to him and helped kick start his recruitment.

“They like the progress I’ve made over the past couple months. A year ago I was throwing like 84 or 85 and now I’m like 89 or 90 and I don’t think that’s going to stopping any time soon,” Becker said. “I feel like I’m getting stronger every day. I think they recruited me because the possibilities I can bring.”

Becker’s had a strong start to the summer as well as he gets back to baseball after a few months away from the game because of COVID-19.

He’s still been able to work out at a local gym near Chapin with the goal of putting more weight to add more velocity to his pitches.

Right now he’s listed at 180 pounds and said he wants to get up to 200 pounds by the time he gets to South Carolina.

“They mentioned that once you step on campus for the first practices, everyone has a chance,” he said. “If you’re good, you’ll play. I really liked that. There’s a lot of competition and I think I’m ready for it. “

For now, he gets to finish out his career at Chapin knowing he’s committed to his dream school.

“Playing in front of everyone and playing at a school I’ve looked up to for so long and playing in front of people I know that love and support me,” Becker said of what excites him. “It’s close to home.”

FWIW

ELO rankings have us 3-5 against Quad 1 and 2 teams, and 6-1 against all others.

its not great, but 2-4 vs top 22 isnt awful. beating the teams we are supposed to beat is what we have done for the most part. Xavier is a quad 1 team at this point, and could end up being good. Clemson also is looking like a really good team right now.

Long way to go, but if we can take 2 against Tennessee that puts us in a much better place than we could have imagined a week ago. Granted if we get swept then all of that momentum is lost and we may spiral down and struggle

USC 3
El Cid 4

...walkoff loss in a nightmare blown save for Braswell in which he walked 3 and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs while failing to record even 1 out. Braswell's 6 for his last 34 at the plate and it's understandably got him shook a bit on the mound now.

I'm just glad Kingston was able to save Cade Austin for the Vandy series Thur/Sat - after Austin had thrown just 20 total pitches to get 6 outs in the 7th/8th. another 15 pitches will really make a difference when USC can't score enough to beat Tim Corbin anyways.

Kingston is currently 24-39 in SEC play since 2019. that includes his 'bounceback' 16-14 mark last year.

Added South Carolina obviously doesn't have 162 games to figure things out, but trying to take things one day at a time.

Sorry mark but joc, soler, Duvall and Eddie aren't walking through that door. These excuses are becoming comical and embarrassing. He and Ray need to go last week.

Other programs I understand to an extent Ray failing at as an unqualified AD. I don't like it or give him a pass, but i get it.

For baseball its the biggest mystery to me. Surely he had every contact in america, he is the dude that every baseball coach should want to work for. Great program, Great fans, an AD that would open a checkbook.

but for whatever reason, he has been content to watch his baby just die

Kingston strikes back. 5 game skid over. credit to him.

moved Madden up to the 2 spot in his lineup and it paid off. 1 through 4 had 9 of the 12 hits. Eyster 3-run HR. Belk 3/4 on base 4 times at leadoff. Sanders 74 strikes 104 pitches 11Ks 2BB 21 outs.

I just want everyone to know

I went to USC from 2010-2013.

Obviously they were good years.

I moved out of the state in 2014. The entire department went to shite.

I told my best buddy I used to go to all the games with I’m moving back to SC the weekend of the Texas series. We saw how that went. We also fired Martin.

I’m in SC now on the coast for my bachelor party. We beat Vandy.

Clearly I motivate the department.

When I move back in may everything will be resolved.
