Needed a grand slam to avoid the first 1-2 start since 1970

we may still lose, but a Grand Slam to tie it in the 9th with 2 outs is some fight!

This is going to be a long season if we don't see significant improvement.

Saw people blasting those who are critical of Kingston because we came from behind and beat UNCG

With the almost choke on Friday, it’s remarkable we didn’t get swept

Yeah I have seen that too. The "thats why we play 9 innings crowd"

I am happy we won, kept up with it at the end.

I also feel like baseball unlike basketball allows you to lose a couple of games early , but hopefully we see massive improvement in the next week. Lou Holtz always said you see the most improvement from week 1 to week 2. If we can do that maybe we will be fine. If we don't....long season ahead.

South Carolina was dealt a devastating blow to its pitching staff this week with James Hicks now officially out for the season.

Mark Kingston announced Thursday the Gamecocks’ right-hander will miss the remainder of the season. Hicks will need Tommy John surgery.

Hicks entered the season as the projected Sunday starter. But, with Julian Bosnic on the shelf, started on Saturdays the first two weekends of the season.

He made two starts with a 5.14 ERA in seven innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

The junior college righty didn’t make it out of the third inning in his last start. He exited with what Kingston called at the time arm soreness.

His injury comes at an inopportune time for South Carolina. Not only do the Gamecocks host Clemson this weekend but it’s also during a time of flux in the Gamecocks’ pitching staff.

Bosnic is still out dealing with a flexor strain. He hasn’t pitched this season after entering the preseason expected to be one of the two frontline starters.

Josiah Sightler, who was in the offensive lineup against App State, is dealing with oblique and elbow issues.

The Gamecocks will go with Will Sanders (2-0, 3.00 ERA) on Friday night when South Carolina hosts the Tigers (7 p.m.). But there are now major question marks behind him Saturday at the neutral site game and Sunday at Clemson.

With the pitching staff banged up, it’ll be up to a host of newcomers, largely freshmen, to step up for South Carolina.

5.14 ERA
I get it that he brings experience and continuity to the starting rotation, but there better be another pitcher on our roster that can put up better numbers than that against UNCG & GW. Otherwise we got bigger problems on our hands.

Blew a lead against Clemson. Staring at yet another men's sports loss to them. Frick Ray Tanner.

Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the series, not that I was feeling very optimistic anyways

Saw this on 247. I hate Ray Tanner so goddamn much
quote:

...if we move on from Kingston we owe him $2.2million, which Ray increased from $800k AFTER last season. A season in which we were the worst hitting team in the league and exited quickly with no fight in year 4 of Kingston's time. We effectively threw $1.4mm out the window; in almost the exact way we threw the extra season of buy-out out the window when Ray added a 6th year to Muschamp's contract after a 7 win season.

Kingston perfecting his ability to have no clue/feel for a game currently T4 - trailing a 2-9 Zavier now 6-4.

Kingston has bunted with runners 1/2 and 0 outs in consecutive innings resulting a lone run in each frame. meanwhile the Zavier coach has let his team swing away here T4 and have scored 4 runs so far - just one out and runners again 1/2.

Zavier didn't bunt anyone over on base at all T4 and scored 7. maybe Kingston could take some notes while trailing 9-4 now.
