Well you've convinced me, that's for sure. Where's your beachfront property in Omaha?

Let us all remember that these are 18yr old men and nothing is set in stone until the school has that letter of intent and the player is in class. Feb is a long time away.

Spurrier does not have until February with Tramel. He is an early enrollee and WILL be in Athens in January along with Brice Ramsey.

We lead for Shaq Davidson per another site... He said he is only going to visit SC and has no other visits scheduled... SC made a major move this weekend! Top instate prospect for 2014... It's going to be a loaded instate class... Wont lose top player instate two years in a row.

It's been a while since we had new recruiting news for this class...

4* DT Kelcey Griffin is reported to have committed to South Carolina today!
Griffin (6-2, 282), a Rivals 250 and 12th DT, had verbally committed to UGA in September but his commitment wasn't accepted. IMO Griffin is better suited for the 4-3 defensive scheme than UGA's 3-4, which is why they hesitated on accepting him....also UGA feels they have a good chance on getting some DL prospects higher up in rankings...

But Kelcey is a solid prospect (4* 94 ranking and #5 DT per 24/7 sports) and a great pick-up for the Gamecocks! We needed a quality DT in this class, and we got one!

Also OLB and former commit for the 2013 class Brandon Golson - who was removed from listings as a commit to USC a month or so ago, has now recently committed to Arizona. I forgot to update that a while back...

Sounds like TT may be giving Clemson more of a sniff now.

Obviously, DE is a position need for us this cycle...we have So. Clowney and Sr. Taylor, with Jr. Sutton this season, and very little behind them. Senior Aldrick Fordham started 6 games last season at DT, but at 270 is a 'tweener in the mold of Melvin Ingram who was recruited as a DE....he has great experience and should be used IMO at both positions in '12. We have Mason Harris who is being "groomed" as a OLB/DE hybrid, and have RS Fr. Gerald Dixon who can play some at DE, but who is growing into a DT. We have incoming Devin Taylor clones from the 2012 class in Darius English and Jhaustin Thomas, and then what we're bringing in with this class... Turner is listed as a LB, but has been referred to as being recruited for a role similar to past Gamecock great Eric Norwood, who played DE and OLB during his time in Columbia. David Johnson is touted as an excellent fit in a role similar to Ingram's last season, playing both DE and DT. He will need to add weight, but at 250 is closer to it than Ingram was when he was brought in as a 220-lb LB. Washington is a true DE...

We do need DEs in this class but we should be fine for the next couple of years in the meantime. Plus, provided Alfy Hill makes it in along with having Clowney and Sutton for another year, we should be fine.

We should definitely be more focused on getting LBs in this class and I think we're about to do that - this could end-up being one of the better LB classes in the country as a matter of fact.

I love it when we sign those 4* Georgia HS athletes ... they just about always make the Dawgs pay down the road, and I'll bet Griffin will too, first chance he gets. He's going to have extra motivation because of how all of this went down.

We need to get some big Ogre arse offensive linemen. We also need to have a clean slate open QB competition this offseason but that's another story.

Wait ... lemme just make sure I am understanding you here.

You want to tell Connor Shaw, who is what, 12-3 as a starter? You want to tell Connor Shaw he is going to have to start all over again?

Or are you simply stating the obvious, stating what Spurrier ALWAYS says in the Spring - every position is wide open to competition and he'll play the best player at that position?

One goes without saying, the other should never be said. You decide which is which.

Some new recruiting news today: 2013 QB prospect Connor Mitch - who will be an early-enroller (EE) and enrolling in January, signed his financial papers with USC today, which for EEs is essentially the equivalent to a LOI. So Connor is now a Gamecock!

We are getting them....I have never been more optimistic about our situation at OL than I am these days. The 2010 and 2011 seasons our OL depth was as thin as it has ever been under Spurrier, with only a 7-man 2-deep for '10, and only 1 OT with any college experience for '11 (and that one guy was lost for most of the season)...

We're going through an inevitable transition from having very experienced OL but little to no depth, to having great depth but less experience. But as we continue to recruit solid OL like we've been doing beginning with the 2010 class, those things will soon balance out where we have great depth PLUS great experience...

We will lose T.J. Johnson for next season, but he's the only one of any note (Also losing Broome, but he was actually a bust for us after being such a highly rated JUCO OL).

We now will have a legitimate 2-deep at OL next season, with Shell, Robinson, Matulis (hopefully), Gibson, Sport, and Stadnick at OT....Cann, Patrick, Waldrop, Stadnick, and Sport can also move over as well at OG, and Harris, Stadnick, and Ford at OC.

We are bringing in one of the best OL classes under Elliott for the 2013 class: King, Park, Knott, and Voneshek are all solid prospects and with the exception of Voneshek who will definitely need a RS year to develop physically, all of them have Div. 1 college-ready bodies. We're also in strong position to add highly-rated Na'Ty Rodgers. But the GREAT thing that we couldn't really say 3-4 seasons ago, was our incoming freshman won't need to be pushed into playing situations before they're ready due to poor depth. They can ALL red-shirt next season, and we'll still have a full 2-deep....

Corey Robinson has made a pleasant surprise for me...I was wondering what the deal was with him when we moved him to the DL when he came in, but never heard much from him there. Then he moved back to OL this off-season, and next thing we know he becomes our regular starter at LT. He's a 3rd-yr. sophomore, and with Shell being a RS-freshman we could have some stability at the OT position for the next 2 years...

Looking for any news as far as RB targets.. I've unfortunately been unable to keep up with recruiting as much as normal, but how are we looking in the running for Bryant? Or have we focused mainly on Williams? Either would be excellent.

I think there has been some division in the fanbase about Bryant, as he has repeatedly stated time and time again how much he likes USC, and he's either a borderline 5* prospect or a legit 5*.

But he's a particular type RB that we already are loaded to the gills with: a big, powerful back who runs up the middle. Next season we will have Wilds, Davis, and Salley who all already fit that particular mold. We're also bringing in Jamari Smith in this cycle's class, who's also a bigger back but with above solid speed for his size.

The Coaching staff sees in Williams a back who's more in the mold of Shon Carson: a back with a higher gear of speed. The staff thinks Williams will fit into the system better than Bryant will, simply because the depth chart is not as deep with Williams' type of back...

He's going to end-up in taterville with Dabo and company. He's visited enough SEC schools now to know he does not want to have to take the weekly pounding receivers take in the SEC.

You forgot Shon Carson.

And yeah, Kendrick Salley is my darkhouse next star. I watched him play in High School and he was very very good. Committed to us his sophomore season actually - always wanted to be a Gamecock. And he's been a stud on the scout team in practices.

We seem to have genuinely progressed to the point of reloading rather than rebuilding. We're stout at all positions for the next few years at a minimum.
