Looks like UHigh just added a 3 star junior RB from Lafayette Christian. The Instagram post says that makes five 3 star players on the roster. But I think it’s actually 7 now.

Anyone know if they are still planning to open a BR location?

That’s fair, and depth absolutely favors the bigger schools. But size alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

U-High has shown for years that it can play with those programs. Just look at their results v Catholic High in recent years.

The 2019 team was a small-school team that had 7-9 Division I signees, including a few SEC and ACC players, and you could make a case they were the best team in the state that year.

This year’s team isn’t loaded like that one, but they still have Knox Kiffin, another three-star in Emmanuel Moses, the LSU RB coach’s sonar WR, a highly regarded OL transfer from Mississippi, and a roster that’s been playing together since elementary and middle school because it’s a K-12 school. (Dunham does the same.)

Yes, the larger schools generally have more depth. No doubt. But when you have a college-level QB, college-level skill players, good coaching, and continuity, I don’t think being a smaller school automatically drops you to No. 30.

That’s really all I was saying.

Rivals released its 2026 preseason Louisiana high school football rankings. The top of the rankings looks about like most people would expect, with Edna Karr, St. Aug, and Catholic-BR in the top three spots.

What surprised me was seeing U-High at No. 30 and Dunham at No. 31.

I understand that both schools compete in smaller divisions and may not face the same week-to-week schedule as many of the Division I programs. But at some point, the results on the field and the actual talent on the roster should matter.

U-High won a state championship in 2021 and has reached the semifinals three times since then. The 2024 team probably would have won State in 2024 if they weren’t DQ’d right before the playoffs. They returned to the SF last year and lost 34–27 in overtime to eventual Div. II Select champ, SCC.

Again - I know they play in a smaller division, but they have shown they are able to compete with the larger schools every year. U-High beat Catholic 31–30 in 2023, during a season in which Catholic won the Division I Select championship, and beat them again in 2024.

Now U-High adds Lanes son - Knox Kiffin (a three-star quarterback) - along with Kevin Smith Jr., his longtime teammate and a receiver with major college offers. That is in addition to the returning players from a team that was one overtime possession away from the Dome last season. The recruiting board says they are adding the top HS recruit in Mississippi this year as well.

I just find it hard to believe there are 29 teams in Louisiana that should be ranked ahead of U-High entering the season.

Dunham at No. 31 may be even more difficult to understand. The Tigers are the defending Div. III Select state champions and return Elijah Haven, a top 3 quarterback in the entire country. With Haven leading Dunham’s wide-open offensive system, they are capable of scoring with almost anyone in the state.

I am not saying that either U-High or Dunham belongs in the top five. The larger schools generally have more depth, especially along the lines, and that matters over a full season. But both schools being outside the top 25 - and behind that many teams with far less recent postseason success - just seems odd.

To me, both look more like top-12 - 15 teams than No. 30 and No. 31.

I don’t have any kids at either school, but I do live in Baton Rouge and hear and follow the local sports teams. Am I overrating them because they are Baton Rouge-area programs, or are these two of the biggest misses in the preseason rankings?

People keep framing the Ole Miss–Clemson situation as standard “tampering,” which is typically a Level II issue. That’s true in most cases—but this one may carry bigger risks for Ole Miss…especially now with the Fresno State allegations.

In the Clemson case, the reported messages from Pete Golding (“how much would it cost…”) go beyond simple contact and could fall under impermissible inducements, which are treated as Level I violations. It will be interesting to see what the texts said in the Fresno State case.

Now - this is the bigger issue. Clemson’s GM and AD reportedly alerted Ole Miss’ leadership before the Cal/Clemson LB player entered the portal, warning them that the OM coaching staff communication was improper. Despite that, the contact allegedly continued.

If those reports are accurate, the concern for Ole Miss isn’t just tampering—it’s whether the administration failed to act after being notified. That’s the type of scenario the NCAA has previously classified as lack of institutional control, a Level I category.

Nothing may ultimately come of it, but the potential exposure here appears to be larger than a routine tampering case.

OM had a large portal class. I suspect that the Clemson player and Fresno player weren’t the only ones whose transfers were handled this way. I suspect Dabo’s press conference may have opened the floodgates with respect to Ole Miss violations.

LSU women are stacked at the top of the lineup. Brace and Cross are the top 2 UTR rated players in women’s college. They were the only two college players in the women’s draw (qualifying) at the Aussie Open. Add in great pickups and replacements at the 3rd and 4th lines, they are a legit national title contender this year.

That said - I wouldn’t say they are the clear favorite. I follow and listen to a number of tennis podcasts including college….and the consensus talk is that this is the first time in a few years it’s not either aTm or UGa and everyone else for the women’s title. Instead, the talk is there are 5 true title contenders this year - including LSU.

As stacked as LSUs lineup is - Auburns similarly stacked with former/current pros. Georgia - same. aTm too. Then there’s Okie State and Stanford.

LSUs Cross will also be playing a lot of tournaments throughout the season. Hopefully she stays healthy and the constant travel doesn’t affect her play. Both she and Brace struggled today against Marshall in both singles and doubles. If LSU is going to compete for the natty, they need those two to come through for them.

Swinney says this doesn't need to be a three-month or three-week investigation, should take three days. Unless Ole Miss is lying.

The school has 48 hours to enter the paper work after being notified by the player that the player wants to enter the portal.

Clemson’s top portal signee was the ACC freshman defensive player of the year. He was at Cal last Fall. Entered the portal. He committed to Clemson in early January after visits. He signed a contract with Clemson. He enrolled in school and attended classes this week. He participated in team meetings this week. He apparently told Dabo last night at 9 PM he wanted to re-enter the portal. He and his family told Clemson he’s had multiple discussions with Golding this week and OM was doubling his NIL offer (after losing the LB to LSU). There was no formal announcement of his entry into the portal yet because the paper work hasn’t been formally submitted. But he is “in the portal” as Clemson has until Sunday to file the paper work. The Clemson site reported he is no longer on Clemson’s campus and is now in Oxford.
