People keep framing the Ole Miss–Clemson situation as standard “tampering,” which is typically a Level II issue. That’s true in most cases—but this one may carry bigger risks for Ole Miss…especially now with the Fresno State allegations.

In the Clemson case, the reported messages from Pete Golding (“how much would it cost…”) go beyond simple contact and could fall under impermissible inducements, which are treated as Level I violations. It will be interesting to see what the texts said in the Fresno State case.

Now - this is the bigger issue. Clemson’s GM and AD reportedly alerted Ole Miss’ leadership before the Cal/Clemson LB player entered the portal, warning them that the OM coaching staff communication was improper. Despite that, the contact allegedly continued.

If those reports are accurate, the concern for Ole Miss isn’t just tampering—it’s whether the administration failed to act after being notified. That’s the type of scenario the NCAA has previously classified as lack of institutional control, a Level I category.

Nothing may ultimately come of it, but the potential exposure here appears to be larger than a routine tampering case.

OM had a large portal class. I suspect that the Clemson player and Fresno player weren’t the only ones whose transfers were handled this way. I suspect Dabo’s press conference may have opened the floodgates with respect to Ole Miss violations.
Probably need to create a pinned thread for LSU tennis discussion (men and women) for the season as both teams should have deep runs this year in the NCAAs.

LSUs men run started with a great opening season win over Clemson, 4-3, who is also one of the most improved teams in the country and punched their ticket on the road to the Indoors as well this weekend.

In LSUs “upset” win over Clemson was without Olaf Pieczkowski and
Alessio Vazquez - their no 2 and 3 rated players - in the lineup and I don’t think Vazquez played this entire weekend either. Hopefully, he’ll be back soon.

And the LSU women’s team is also the clear tile favorite this year as well

LSU women are stacked at the top of the lineup. Brace and Cross are the top 2 UTR rated players in women’s college. They were the only two college players in the women’s draw (qualifying) at the Aussie Open. Add in great pickups and replacements at the 3rd and 4th lines, they are a legit national title contender this year.

That said - I wouldn’t say they are the clear favorite. I follow and listen to a number of tennis podcasts including college….and the consensus talk is that this is the first time in a few years it’s not either aTm or UGa and everyone else for the women’s title. Instead, the talk is there are 5 true title contenders this year - including LSU.

As stacked as LSUs lineup is - Auburns similarly stacked with former/current pros. Georgia - same. aTm too. Then there’s Okie State and Stanford.

LSUs Cross will also be playing a lot of tournaments throughout the season. Hopefully she stays healthy and the constant travel doesn’t affect her play. Both she and Brace struggled today against Marshall in both singles and doubles. If LSU is going to compete for the natty, they need those two to come through for them.

Here’s the video of Dabo. Lays out the timeline:

Swinney says this doesn't need to be a three-month or three-week investigation, should take three days. Unless Ole Miss is lying.

Dabo Swinney says he called Clemson AD Graham Neff and ACC commish Jim Phillips.

"We turned everything into the NCAA ... There's tampering, and then there's blatant tampering."

From Ross Dellenger:

Clemson administrators and coaches have been gathering evidence of tampering related to this situation with Ole Miss and transfer Luke Ferrelli and are expected to pursue the allegations to the fullest extent.

Dabo Swinney addressing this today at a news conference ??

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney on Ole Miss just now: "There's tampering, and then there's blatant tampering ... It's texting kids while they're in class ... it's total hypocrisy." Notes this is also going on as Ole Miss accuses other schools of tampering with their roster

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says Ole Miss GM Austin Thomas told Clemson GM Jordan Sorrells that Ole Miss HC Pete Golding "just does what he does." Also says transfer LB Luke Ferrelli told Clemson staff that Golding texted him during an 8 a.m. morning class at Clemson

The school has 48 hours to enter the paper work after being notified by the player that the player wants to enter the portal.

Clemson’s top portal signee was the ACC freshman defensive player of the year. He was at Cal last Fall. Entered the portal. He committed to Clemson in early January after visits. He signed a contract with Clemson. He enrolled in school and attended classes this week. He participated in team meetings this week. He apparently told Dabo last night at 9 PM he wanted to re-enter the portal. He and his family told Clemson he’s had multiple discussions with Golding this week and OM was doubling his NIL offer (after losing the LB to LSU). There was no formal announcement of his entry into the portal yet because the paper work hasn’t been formally submitted. But he is “in the portal” as Clemson has until Sunday to file the paper work. The Clemson site reported he is no longer on Clemson’s campus and is now in Oxford.
To recap for OP

Playoffs

Acc 3-0, 2-0 v SEC
Sec 3-4
Big 10 3-1
Big 12 0-1
Aac 0-1
Sun belt 0-1

5th place ACC team Miami in natty

7 ACC teams win 9+ games, and none of them are named Clemson, FSU or Va. Tech.

9 bowl wins so far (2-11 last year).

8-6 vs SEC.

Regarding Louisville - they were a top 12 team when Miami lost to them when they still had their best player and the best running back in the country. The RB was a stud and Louisville would have e finished ranked if he stayed healthy all year.

SMU has won 30 games in last 3 seasons and isn’t some bad team.

Maybe the ACC wasn’t as bad of a conference after all this year and maybe the SEC simply wasn’t as good ad ESPN told everyone.

Well, to be fair, ACC did go 6-6 against the SEC this year.

The SEC is currently 2-4 in bowl games

One of those wins is against itself

There are two losses to the ACC

There is one loss to the BIG 12

One of their wins is against a G5

I forgot the biggest one - Miami going on road to beat aTm in round 1 of the playoffs. Miami had more ACC regular season losses than aTm had in the SEC.

Of course, the ACC isn’t on the same level as the SEC, with that being said…I believe the ACC and SEC finished 6-6 against each other.

Florida State beat Alabama
Louisville beat Kentucky
Clemson beat South Carolina
Miami beat Florida

All by 2 TDs or more.

Virginia beat Missouri last night.

Georgia Tech - who lost to BYU yesterday - lost by only 7 to this dominant Georgia team in the same building that Georgia blasted Bama the following week.

quote:

quote:This is how bad the ACC was this year. SMU beat Miami and is the 2nd place team in the ACC. They lost to TCU (9th best in the Big-12) and Baylor (11th best in the Big-12). Pitt who is the 4th best in the ACC lost to WVU (14th best in the Big-12).

I’m not saying the ACC is a good conference, but it’s pretty easy to cherry pick games here and there. As bad as the ACC supposedly is:

Florida State beat Alabama (who was no 1 seed abs conference runner up)

Louisville beat Kentucky (who took UTexas to overtime)

Clemson beat South Carolina (who was preseason top 12 and had then no 2 aTm on the ropes)

Miami beat Florida (who beat UTexas)

All by 2 TDs or more.

Oh - and Georgia Tech lost by only 7 to the SEC champion Georgia in a much closer game than Bama did - in what amounted to a UGa home game as opposed to the 50/50 ticket split for Bama/UGa.

The RB coach’s son is Knox Kiffins main WR target. I just watched a podcast with Knox from 2 weeks ago where they talked about how they grew up together when Kiffin was at FIU and now they were playing at Oxford High and one said they hoped to play at the next level together.

I figured the RB coach had a position available on LSUs staff and the two boys would either be playing at Catholic or UHigh together next season.
