re: Best boiled crawfish in Baton Rouge?

Yes, Sammy’s does to-go. I was told they have a new boiler this year. And they are much better than the last couple of years. Has brought back memories of the old Sammy’s crawfish days 15-20 years ago and they are always one of the best in town.

Draper Alvarado was great match. Nice to see the sportsmanship between the two on the challenge reply. Swiatek wouldn’t have given the point like Alcaraz did.

Iva Jovic - the 17 year old US phenom who had a nice showing at the 2024 US Open - won her first round match and then lost in a tough 3rd setter yesterday to the little Italian - just one week after losing to LSUs #2 Kayla Cross in a ITF w35 Final.

I had an Iverstine smash burger recently. Definitely one of the best I have had in BR.

I went to Tower of Pizza earlier in the week. Got stuck outside in a 30 plus minute wait in the cold. A couple of old regulars walked up and were not happy about the wait, and went the other way. One lady snickered - “that pizza review guy is going to ruin our place.”
Once we got inside, it took about another 40 minutes plus for our pizza to come out. The waitress kept apologizing and just said - “it’s been that kind of night.” I knew they were having trouble keeping up with the Dems d following the Portnoy review. During our wait, I didn’t see many pizzas hitting the tables inside. But instead it was one pizza “to go” after another heading out the door.
Like Dave, I enjoyed the old school atmosphere. Reminded me of Fleur de Lis in Bayon Rouge with the old school vibe. For the pizza, it was good. But I’m not sure I would go out of my way for it, or wait like we did for it.

It seems like there are a lot of kids moving between the private schools in BR to be able to play sports. Either to play on a better team or, conversely, to have a better opportunity to get playing time. What’s the current rule for transfer eligibility for private schools - like Dunham, UHigh, SJA, and Catholic? If the private schools you go to is in the same attendance zone at the public school you would go to, but for private school, you are immediately eligible? And for the Catholic schools like St Michael’s, Catholic and SJA - do the public school attendance zones matter, or is it just enough for you have been a student at one of their feeder schools? Or does the feeder school have to be in the public school attendance zone too?

Friend, Here is my first mention of Il Supremo, back in August in response to toof’s Il Supremo photo. I have mentioned it several times since. And each time I return I am even more impressed! I have tried every pizza they serve and cannot say enough positive about their plain and buratta. LINK I think it was toof who introduced most of us to Il Supremo and for that we should all be grateful. Yours, TulaneLSU
TulaneLSU,
I’ve always enjoyed your write-ups and have followed your pizza recommendations closely, even planning some of my own trips to NYC and NOLA around them. That said, something about your recent mentions of Il Supremo has me a bit puzzled.
When I checked the link you provided, it didn’t contain a review or any mention of having actually eaten there back in August - just that you had heard about it and wanted to try it.Now, after Portnoy’s leaked 8+ rating of Forgettable Pizza and Ill Supremo, those two jumped to the top of your rankings, but without the kind of detailed write-up or backstory you typically provide in the months since those local joints opened up.
Given your history of forming purported relationships with famed pizzeria owners across the country, it also seems a little unusual that there’s no connection with you and Mother with the folks behind Il Supremo(as you stated in one of your posts), especially if you’ve visited frequently since August. The place is only open four days a week, limited hours, and was pretty under the radar until recently, so I would have expected to see more of the personal touch you usually bring to these reviews.
I don’t doubt Il Supremo serves great pizza - I plan on trying it myself- but this whole hurried release suddenly hailing Il Suprmeo as one of the best pizzerias in the entire US during Portnoy rating release comes across as very suspect.

interesting. Maybe i missed it, but i follow most of the pizza threads on this board and have been following Ill Supremo for a while, and i don’t remember you writing about it until you dropped your top 10 as Portnoy was releasing his New Orleans pizza visit videos. If you have been onto this pizza f dating back to the summer, why haven’t you mentioned it before this week?

I was going to be in New Orleans today and planned to give Il Supremo a try and was hoping to do so before their review drops. But I just looked at their website and it looks like they are only open Friday - Monday. Is that right? If that’s the case, that place will be next to be impossible to get into once Dave’s review drops.
re: Portnoy Pizza stop 6: Forbidden Pizza
Posted by Roscoe on 2/11/25 at 7:22 pm
I had forbidden pizza, about two months after coming back from a NYC trip. Honestly, the NYC pizza in general didn’t blow me away like I thought it would - other than John’s of Bleeker Street. That said, I thought the one slice at Forbidden Pizza was just as good as most of the slices I got in NYC. I also liked it better than pepperoni pizza I got from St Pizza.

I found it interesting that Catholic - BR and UHigh voted against this, which you think they would vote for with recruiting, but SJA voted yes.

If a kid decides to go to a new private school starting in 9th grade, why should the kid have to sit out a year when he/she is starting HS as a new student like everyone else at his/her new school, most of the kids that attend the private school don’t live within the schools associated public school attendance zone, AND, the private school primarily competed against other private schooll?

Well of course Newman people will try to co-opt the media and look to win a PR battle
I don’t know anything about the case other than what I just saw on Nakamotos investigation, but it does seem pretty damning that the LHSAA director admitted at trial:
1) the LHSAA didn’t follow its own rules and protocol in the handling of the Newman case AND
2) the anonymous allegations against Newman were documented on a paper containing mostly illegible writing.

I always pulled for Collins before, even though I knew she wasn’t quite the friendliest in the locker room or in the court with her opponents. But man, she really lost me with all of that non-sense. Same came across almost like a WWE heel with the way she was taunting the crowd and telling them to kiss her arse.
I was never a fan of Coco Vandeweghe. Knowing now that those two are buds, I will definitely be pulling against Collins going forward.

I10 construction from Beaumont to Louisiana made him run late.
There’s so much conflicting info out there. I have seen reports that say his truck was seen leaving Beaumont earlier in the day, last scanned at Baytown, heading I 10 east. But then I have also seen reports that have said that that truck was parked at the Air BNB for the past two weeks.
One question I have is what’s the deal with the 3 to 4 bombs that were place around the French Quarter by the 3-4 accomplices. The remote for detonating these bombs was supposedly in his truck. He had to know when he pealed down Bourbon, it was a suicide drive and he was going to die. So, why didn’t he detonate the bombs before he turned? And if there were others assisting, why didn’t they have the remote?
