He's doing exactly what our HC wants for our offense. Why would Kirby get rid of him? The question is: How do we change Kirby's philosophy?

Kirby will be forced to change to a more dynamic offense with enough loses due to lack of offense.
For instance, Bama scored 41 on LSU even with an injured Tua. If we lose to LSU in the SECCG say something like 35 to 24, then it would be yet another big game in which the offense could not keep pace which was pretty much the case in our big game loses to Alabama.

Bottom line: Even when you have a good defense, sometimes you find yourself in a shootout in which your offense has to outscore the opposing offense in the 4th quarter. In such cases, you need a stud QB who finds a way to lead the team to victory just as Joe Burrow did vs Alabama.

I'm not defending Kirby for his offensive philosophy. But until the HC decides what he believes in is not working nothing will change. I think Chaney knew the right plays to call but his boss would override him

Justin *cough* Fields....

Kirby should've given him the ball after the LSU game last year and added more RPO's to the offense. We'd be so much more dangerous.

He mismanaged that situation and now he's done it again with Coley.

I don’t know about that. Losing to a crappy South Carolina should be a sign to Kirby that something needs to change. “Getting up” for big games can be difficult if you’re playing the most conservative offense that you can in other games. It also means you have less experience running the offense that you will need to beat the good teams.

I really don't think Kirby moves on from Coley; even if god forbid we lose to Auburna and A&M. Kirby is pretty stubborn and has gotten really defensive about the offense in press conferences. I think Coley is one of our ace recruiters so maybe Kirby is worried about that. Maybe there is some possibility we have co-offensive coordinators but I see Coley back in the same spot next year.

I disagree. In fact, I think there's a very good chance that Kirby will start making his list of OC candidates next Sunday morning. Auburn's D and Kevin Steele with two weeks to prepare will most likely expose Coley as way over his head. For recruiting purposes, Kirby needs to move a lot quicker with this hire because we need receivers and a TE in this class.

Before the decision is made there are 2 questions that must be answered.

1. Is Fromm Returning? Continuity is a very good thing. 1 more year of Coley with 1 more year of Fromm will most certainly be a step forward.

2. Who is the next QB? If the next guy is a true dual threat look for someone who is used to working with that type of QB. I'm sure there are people who know how to implement an offense tailored to a mobile QB.

I doubt it. I still see mock drafts with him going in the first round, notably to the Titans.

As of right now, I bet it would be Carson Beck. I think there's a good chance we go after someone in the transfer portal, though.

I agree with your important questions, but the more games I rewatch, the more I've lost faith in Coley. We've scored two touchdowns in 4 of 9 games, ND, Florida, South Carolina and Missouri. We scored three touchdowns against Vandy and Kentucky. I just think the offense is going backwards and even if Fromm stays I'm not sure it improves substantially under Coley.

Meanwhile, the offense is getting a growing reputation as stagnant/boring/low output, and recruits are surely getting that message from every team we recruit against. If this weekend looks like 5 of our last 6 games (essentially every half decent team we've played), I hope Kirby is proactive to reverse that impression.

Rack up a few more losses like the USC game and he'll either change or his seat will start to get warm.

If he has a chance at first or second round he'll definitely go. He'll need to show out in the next 4 weeks for that to happen, IMO.
