Inside Alabama’s 2019 preseason series part 1

Insightful interview

quote:

“There’s a lot of things that I’d like to do,” Saban said. “What would I enjoy doing? What would I like to do? I have no idea. You’re kind of fearful of the fact that … what if I’m not self-fulfilled and I still had years left to do this?” Saban continued his answer with a look back. “Hey, we all have insecurities,” he said. “When I was a kid, I used to close the closet door in my room because there’s a monster in your closet, you know that. So, you never know what’s behind the door. That’s always a little scary. I think it’s the same thing like you’re talking about with Coach Bryant. I feel the same way.”
quote:

“Coaching is not a job,” Saban said. “It’s a way of life and as long as I feel like I have the energy to do it, which I do, I’m excited about having the opportunity.”

Honestly what would Saban do with his time. You have to be a little different to do what he does. I can't imagine he would find a hobby to completely keep him busy

Coaching keeps Saban healthy. No need for him to retire.

Saban would be a hell of an analyst. He's absolutely killed it every time he's been on ESPN. It may not be his dream job. But he'd be the best former coach they'd have.

ESPN would pay him insane amounts of money.

In other words, Dabo may be retired before I call it quits. Roll Tide coach!

We got him for a while.

I honestly belive Bear Bryant could have coached for much long, possibly even flirted with the 1990s (which would have put him into his late 70s) like Bowden or Paterno... if he hadn't drank constantly and smoked like a chimney most his adult life, it aged him pretty early.

For reference, Coach Saban is only two years younger than Bryant was when he passed, and Nick looks terrific.

Coach Bryant was diagnosed with a serious heart problem before he retired. Imo, he knew that he was living on borrowed time.
