So let’s say we convert 4th and 11. Then what?

Fact of the matter is that this is 2 years in a row our offense has completely stagnated in the second half with seemingly no answer. If we convert, we still have to drove at least another 10-20 yards for comfortable field goal range and even further for a go ahead TD.
We’ve outgrown Chaney’s offensive play calling, need something more creative.

I thought Chaney called a hell of a game, actually. Seemed more like Bamas defense finally stood up and we didn’t execute as consistently as the game wore on.

I hate chaney, bordering on despise him, but he was fine last night. I was pretty darn impressed with him for the most part and he is reason like #50 why we lost.

He had a brilliant first half and first drive in the second half but had no answers for the rest of the game. We can’t keep stalling out offensively with the pieces we have and expect to eventually beat Bama. Adapt or die.

There were open receivers missed in the second half. The Oline played well enough in the second half for us to move the ball. Fromm went straight Reggie Ball on a couple of 3rd down passes.

I would say it came down more to lack of execution on the players than Chaney. Bama really only started getting pressure in the last 5-6 minutes of the game. We had good field position numerous times in the last quarter and a half. We got nothing. You can go scoreless in the last quarter and a half and beat Bama, even with a two touchdown lead. We lacked the killer instinct.

I think this is the reality. It's also what happened last time. Once Alabama adjusted, he couldn't counter-adjust. It even seemed like he began to go more conservative (until we were desperate), which made things worse.
I don't think Chaney is the top tier of OCs.

Had we converted that disaster into a first down, we could likely made another first down, run down the clock, force Saban to call time outs (and rest our players) and kick a go ahead FG. Then a rested defense would have won the game.

For what it is worth, I don't have faith in last night's defense in making any stops late. Kirby probably felt the same way and felt the need to keep the ball at all costs.

I love the rants definition of conservative. Basically, any pass or run that doesn't work is a conservative playcall because it doesn't get yards/ first downs.

Fact of the matter is that the play design was Swift catching the ball with nobody in front of him = touchdown.
Field goal wasn't part of the equation.

Still doesn't answer the question of where was Swift in the 2nd half.

Thought we went away from the run too much I'm the second half. We owned first half TOP and were leaning on them hard. Wish we'd had Cleveland and Mays for depth.

I originally put all the blame on Kirby but after watching the replay Fields did the same shite he always does. His first read was covered so he panicked and took off not realizing he had another guy wide open.

Chaney was not the issue yesterday. Called a hell of a game.

That's still on Kirby for putting the game in the hands of a guy that is CLEARLY not ready. I saw every down that Fields was in as wasted play and they were.
