Hog fans, I come in peace! Just heard that Mizzou is talking to Paul Rhoads about our DC position. Any input about Rhoads’ pros and cons? Btw, good luck on your coaching search.

He did a great job with our CBs technique when that’s all he had to focus on last year. Tough to say how he is as a DC because he had his hand tied this year calling the defense that Bielema wanted which was a schematic trainwreck.

Has his db's play 10 yards off just like our last 10 DCs

And gave up 40+ yard gains like going out of style.

Honestly, I have no idea he is a good DC or not because Bert had a clear trend of hampering his coordinators. As a cornerbacks coach, he seemed legit though, he developed an NFL type corner for us (even though he got hurt) and he had s some decent safeties when they weren't blowing assignments.

The real problem I think lied in the fact that we had no real speed on defense since basically 2014. Bert and his idiot strength coach were more worried about how much weight they could Pack on players and how many pounds the kids could box squat than how fast or explosive they were.

Rhoads did not blitz at all (a trend of Bert defenses), but when he did we got some pressure. I think he's a solid coach, but not in the Saban league of defensive mindset, but not many are. He also had essentially no talent to work with on defense.

Well, you gotta look at what he did before being DC under Bielema. Like others have said, it's crystal clear that Bielema had a hand in his defense this past year. We saw the same dumb shite we have seen with our last few DCs.

Rhoads was brought on here because he likes to play aggressive defense. He likes to attack an offense instead of react to one. At least that's what was sold to us as fans. Unfortunately that never actually happened here. Bielema had too much influence.

Before coming to Arkansas he was a good enough DC to make his way through the ranks to end up a head coach in a power 5 conference. He built top 10 defenses at 2 different schools. He is good at his job, and it could work out well for Missouri.

On the other hand, it may not. Missouri plays awful fast on offense. That style of play is known to affect the defensive side of the ball. Generally speaking the tempo teams offense and defense don't compliment one another very well.

My question would be what about Odom? He's a salty DC himself. I'm surprised he doesn't train up his own DC so he can avoid any potential philosophy problems.

I think he's a good DC. Was working for a HC that wanted too much input into an area he shouldn't have had input.
