How long 'til we lose Pinkel

The wife and I were talking about coaching issues in college and pro teams. Pinkel has achieved a level of greatness that will last for decades and keep in our school history forever.
So when does he go. Does he leave while we are on top, or stay until we start sucking it?
If we win the SEC this year, I think Pinkel hits the door in the next season or two. Probably to take the HC job at pro team in need of rebuilding. Possibly Houston.
If we don't win the SEC this year, I think he will stay for up to four years to try winning it.
Thoughts?

I don't see him coaching anywhere else. How old is he? I see him sticking around a couple more years or so and grooming Henson. Could be wrong.

He's in his 60s. Mizzou is his baby. He's not leaving it until he retires.

That would be good.
My wife is convinced we lose him within a season or two because of the NFL's need for some new coaching blood. I'm not sure. I think he could make that jump - but not until after winning the SEC and a natty.

While i think he is a great coach, I think his strength is developing talent.
Just look at the stars our athletes are given on Rivals. 2*-3*'s, Mathematically we should not be competing to the level we are right now let alone a SEC level. Pinkel coaches up his players and gets them to preform their best. Not saying it couldnt happen in the NFL just saying i think his strongest part of what he does is recruit players he calls "boys" he knows he can develop into "men" a football studs. A few years ago the blue chips came calling and he stayed true to Mizzou, and thats the way I see him going out to, HCGP TrueSon Through and Through.

We're not losing Pinkel. Much like Saban, he's too old to start over somewhere else. Pinkel will retire at Mizzou.

He's 61, under contract through the age of 65.
He's making roughly $2.5 million per. Sometimes a higher figure is quoted.
Assistants in the NFL don't make more than $2 million per usually.

We will not lose him until his retirement. A few things:
1. He doesn't have the time left in his coaching to rebuild or reform a new program in his image.
2. The NFL is high risk and low reward given his position and salary at Mizzou. Even a salary that doubles what he makes wouldn't make him leave, considering that he could be a 2 or 3 year NFL head coach if he isn't successful. Compare that to being set for the rest of the life at a place he loves and has carefully crafted in his image at Mizzou.
3. He wants very badly to cement his legacy at Mizzou and retire here is the winningest coach by far.
4. He experienced a national championship while on staff with Don James at Washington, who was very much a father figure to him. Especially with Coach James' death, I think he would like very badly to win a national championship at Mizzou, and know that he's built a program that will last based on those shared values as an homage to his mentor.
4. Personal redemption is a strong motivator for him to put some years of success between himself and last year. This year is evidence of that.
It would not surprise me to see him coach until he's 67 or 68, given his health holding up.

I agree with Jim.
However, I see us losing some assistants. Stec wants to be an HC, and he's running out of time. I could see him go somewhere else next year.
I don't see Henson leaving yet. He needs another year or two at OC to pad his resume, or seek Pinkels job at retirement.

If Pinkel wanted to leave he would have taken the Notre Dame interview before they hired Kelly.

I'm sorry, I don't see the NFL as a option for him.

No offense to HCGP but he is not an NFL coach at this point. I think he retires from mizzou when gets burnt out.

I'm so jealous with your stability in regards to head coaches. For the past decade, we've had so many issues. I think Freeze will have some staying power, but consider yourselves very fortunate to have consistency. Hell, why do you think Bauer changed his mind? (that kid seems like a class act).
Good luck this weekend, and I hope y'all win out.

Those rankings are subjective. Once Mizzou proves themselfves, ie as of now, those 2 stars become 3 stars, and those 3 stars become 4 stars, as soon as word hits the wire that Mizzou offered a kid.
They call it the Bama Bump because it's more obvious when Bama offers a kid, his rankings immediately jump, and the fact one of the major recruiting services accidentally admitted that it's true.... but it's not just Bama. Any big shot program that offers a kid with low rating, immediately gets a bump from the rating service, the rating services assume the professionals saw something in the kids that they didn't, for whatever reason.
Mizzou's recruiting rankings will mysteriously climb this year and going forward, but it won't be because Mizzou suddenly started recruiting better, it will be because you've finally earned enough respect to rub off on the kids you are targetting.
