re: Big 12 releases statement on today's news

It looks like they intend to hold sooner and longhorn in the conference until 2025.
TX and OU already have said they'll honor their contract. They don't want to pay out $80m each to the B12 members. They will likely get it reduced later and make the $30-40m payment.
Okie ST isn't getting in the B10. They've already said they will not take less academic institutions and that means they'll only consider AAU schools. That's ISU and KU and neither of those help the B10. Nobody cares about basketball money. Conference money is all about football and KU is pathetic. ISU is finally good at football but why add them when you already have Iowa?
B12 will add a few AAC schools like Cincy, Memphis, Houston and then BYU. They'll be the elite G5.
re: Lost in all of this is Oklahoma State

The Big12 will bring in BYU, Houston and two other school (Louisiana, Memphis, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Boise State). They'll survive as the premier non-P5.
People act like Kansas is an obvious B10 pickup but all they play is basketball. Their football team loses to FCS teams semi-routinely. Why add that? They are basically UConn. Plus Kansas has crap population. B10 already brought in 1 low population state because they play FOOTBALL.

Thank God our conference will still maintain geographic integrity. We have no outliers and all states border another SEC state at least.
Iowa State would be the only outlier and there is zero chance they are taking Iowa State. They didn't want these schools last time WITH Texas and Oklahoma but now they'll take them without the cream?
re: SECCG should always be in Atlanta

SEC Championship will be moving to Dallas at least 1/2 the time. Once you get Texas in your conference, they dictate the rules.

The decent schools have all been taken. You don't get "better" by taking low level teams.
ACC is already at 14 1/2 schools. WVU isn't giving you anything that it didn't when you turned them down 10 years ago and chose Louisville and Pitt.
Kansas only plays basketball in a football world. Plus their basketball programs is as corrupt as you can find.

WVU already was turned down by the ACC when they begged.
This is a football world. KU is a basketball school. You don't need to be in a major conference to be a national contender in basketball.

Or, it's a rumor floated to generate a bidding war between the PAC12, ACC and Big10. Texas floated a crapload of rumors just for this reason back around 2010. Back then the rumors started swirling and boom, conferences announced they were evaluating expansion partners.
The SEC has 7 national championship contenders. Some want to believe the networks decide these things, UT and OU would be better served (to them) to be in the Pac12. Otherwise the entire West Coast will forever be an afterthought for college football.

A lot of inexperienced players on that O-line. The winner of the job might be the guy who can avoid the pressure the best.
re: SEC to play conference only games; what other west teams do we get?
Posted by ZouTigers on 8/12/20 at 9:15 am
If the SEC shuts down, the schools still be paid for SEC Network subscriber fees. Wonder how much that has turned into per school. There are roughly 70 million subscribers so is that $8m per school?
Big10 owns so they get a share of the profit - without games there likely isn't much profit.

Cancel culture is a way for people who have very limited power to exert power. Being against it sounds an awful lot like declaring you don't want people outside the power structure to utilize the tools at their disposal.
The players used the leverage at their disposal which is a very powerful piece of leverage and the coach crumbled. What Gundy wore will be used against him for the rest of his career. Just like there is a reason why St Louis high school football coaches didn't sell Mizzou to their players - they had a reason which went back decades.

I'll go to a few high school games and local college games in person - I gave up watching almost all college basketball and NBA 6-7 years ago.
My SlingTV is cancelled as soon as college football is over so I don't even have ESPN again until next Labor Day.

Do whatever you can to keep this place from turning into TB. Trolling an internet forum is essentially the same as graffiti. It's not cool and is indicative of a problem that we all have to deal with. What ends up happening is people move away to something better.

I used to watch college basketball 4-5 days a week. I think I've watched 2 games all year.
This is it. I used to watch a TON of college basketball, used to go to Arch Madness every year and would get tickets to NCAA tourney games if remotely close. I would have seen almost every team in the NCAA brackets because I watched all the conference championships also. Now, I go watch a few high school games.
I've gone to a few Webster University, Fontbonne, Wash U level games the past few years. Free to get in, decent quality and you get close to the action.
re: Question: Big Ten vs. SEC
Posted by ZouTigers on 1/24/20 at 3:45 pm
The SEC delivers more money yearly. The B10 required a buy-in to their network which would have been about $50 million that the SEC gave up freely. Just guessing on the $50 million.
The B10 didn't make an offer. Can't move to a conference who doesn't ask. Mizzou would NEVER leave the SEC.
Basketball might be lesser in the SEC but Mizzou is shooting itself in the foot on that. Kentucky has no problem winning, Florida has won more basketball national championships in the last 20 years than the entire B12 combined plus matched the entire B10 combined.

I think you have until the 28th to actually enroll for the semester to count. The point is he is enrolling now and not next fall.

Yes there were two piece of information online. One gave one name, another a different name and only one was checked. When someone else looked into it and saw the problem is when things got investigated.
Call the police department and verify the information. It really isn't all that difficult.

Really? As a journalist did Gabe consider verifying the story before running with it? Maybe call the police? Maybe call the family?
Oddly when they needed to investigate it further, they were able to get to the bottom of the story rather quickly and get the facts. Shocking how journalism works isn't it?

What else did Gabe screw up this month?
I stopped following him years ago. I talked with his dad one time when the Big12 meltdown began and came away shocked the man held a job as a professional journalist. Read Gabe for a while after that and it dawned on me it's the same moronic / arrogant thought process.

re: Mike Leach: about buying recruits(players)

I don't know if this new system will be a bad thing but I think most people are under estimating how massive the money will be.
I also think the grad transfer portal is going to be a highway of transfers. Undergrad transfers are going to be FAR more common.
Every player 3-star and higher will have a guaranteed payment contract. Most 2-stars will sign contracts.
I've read journalists trying to declare this isn't pay for play. That's a semantics argument of who's paying. The school isn't paying but the booster club is signing contracts at the direction of the coach and AD.

re: Cali legislation topic: Whose Boosters are best equipped to buy recruits?

Any player with a 3- star rating will get guaranteed payouts. The amounts go up from there.
McLane at Baylor could easily put $300m in a fund to make these distributions forever.
The Walton's are worth >$100billion. You think one of them wouldn't throw $250 million into a fund to buy some players forever? They built the Mizzou and Arkansas arenas.
Steve Balmer and Larry Page went to Stanford? IMO Stanford will be the dominant force in 10 years.
