There's a reason you almost always defer the kickoff

Hogs got fricked on the INT at the end of the half, yes, but, by not deferring the kickoff, Moo State doubled up from and went from a 13-point deficit to a 1 pt lead in the 2rd qtr.

Miss State also held the ball for about 13 mins of straight game clock time.

Absolutely gigantic coaching mistake by Pittman that may cost them the game. And yes, I was yelling at the TV when I heard the Pittman deferred at the beginning of the game.

Slusher got there early. Sure it doesn't get called all the time but that was PI. Maybe it's the Bobby years but I like getting the ball first. We usually play our best on offense at the very beginning and end of games.

Simply because of Odom's bend don't break defense.

You stop Moo State on the first drive of the second half we win by two scores.

I agree. An extra possession is more valuable in the 2nd half than the 1st half.

Actually pretty similar to the holding call on Burks at the end. Both technically penalties by the book, both would go uncalled a decent percentage of the time

Disagree.

Against P5 opponents this year, we’ve scored zero TDs on our opening drive, and have only come away with points on our first possession twice (FGs against aTm and Auburn). We’ve only scored a first quarter TD in 3 of those 6 games.

Given that, I'd prefer an extra possession in the second half.

Theyre downvoting you but youre right. I hate taking the ball first...The offense is amped up which makes it easy for mistakes (penalties, drops, overthrows, etc), defense that you are going against is amped up and fresh, crowd is loud and insane, etc.

Id rather always have the comfort of knowing you get the ball in the second half when you can make halftime adjustments and your offense has some rhythm.

Letting Auburn score on their first possession completely deflated the crowd with the "here we go again" mentality. I liked the call getting the ball.

Had the defense did their job we wouldn't be talking about this.

Well we won the game so I would argue they did.

Well if true thats a crappy crowd then. I wasnt there so I dont know. There's still 50 minutes of football left...not sure why the crowd would roll over after one score.

I waiver here. I think you want your best unit out first.but i also love getting ball to start second half. Gives you a little something to work with.so when we have a good defense this is always the call to defer. If I'm offense heavy I'm not planning it mattering who gets the possession the second half.
