He won’t even finish out the season. Gone.
I guess beating Texas 6 out of the last 8 years doesn’t buy what it used to.

It seems they think they are at a different level these days and should expect more.

Patterson led TCU to 17 bowl appearances during his tenure -- the school had previously been to a total of 17 bowl games between 1896 and his first season as head coach -- and he went 11-6 in those bowls. TCU finished in the top 10 of the AP postseason poll six times, including a No. 2 finish in 2010 and No. 3 in 2013.

They were being snubbed from the playoffs a short time ago. Methinks great QBs and players want no part of Patterson.

He’s got to be tired of soft arse players and free agency, and I don’t blame him one bit.
Change for the worse.

Someone will snag him.
There is a very nice defensive analyst spot available in Tuscaloosa.
Patterson has done very well considering the talent ebb and flow he generally has to work with while coaching 2 decades in an all offense, all the time conference

He also got tired of having a top 10 program. Now, who really has the problem?

They aren't having the best year but given what he has done at TCU you would think they'd give him more leeway.
Unless they get a home run hire, which is unlikely, I have a feeling this going to be like Southern Miss pushing Jeff Bower out the door. A long term disaster that tanks the program for years and years.

He was the talk of the coaching hires in the SEC for a decade. We are about to see how much tread is still on those tires.

Wow. I thought he was going to get a statue there or have the field named after him. He’s been there 20+ years.

Another Texas program with delusions of grandeur.

I'm pretty sure he does have a statue.

He does have a statue there. I wonder what's going to become of that now that he's been fired.

Yeah this is a classic case of a school overvaluing themselves, especially considering what the Big 12 will look like in 4 years. Patterson is like Bill Snyder: he's always eventually righted the wrongs, but they're really asking for irrelevance here. Can't imagine they can pull off a good hire

Im conflicted on it.
Him building that program is one of the better coaching jobs in modern day CFB. However, they have honestly been pretty bad since 2017 in a fairly bad conference. The administration probably isn’t looking for championships, but more so probably just consistently competitive seasons. Can someone besides Patterson bring that to TCU? I have no idea. I would have probably given him one or two more seasons to try and get it turned around post COVID.
It is funny in a way to see a place like TCU pushing out a legendary coach. I would expect it from somewhere like Bama, Georgia, or Texas where football is a big part of the schools livelihood, but TCU? feels like he would have been there until he wanted to leave.
Also I saw in his interview that it was mutual. Now I have no idea how mutual it was, but maybe he was ready to move on and try to build something else. I think he will get a shot somewhere like Arizona or Colorado.

I love his 4-2-5 defense.
If some lesser program doesn't pick him up as HC, he'll be a hell of a DC at any program.

quote:He's 61, and will be getting a $18 million buyout from TCU. Plus, he made a ton of money on oil deals with TCU boosters back when the Barnett Shale was hot. He's going to stick to bad country music. He's done with coaching.

There has been a steady drip of negative news regarding Patterson out of TCU for at least a year at this point. Obviously the decision makers got cross ways with him at and something yet to be revealed caused this abrupt departure.
Reminds me a lot of when the nimrod athletic department folks and trustees out in Lubbock convinced themselves that Mike Leach was easily replaceable. It took just a few years for that program to nosedive into utter
futility.

That was Dennis Franchione that took the football out of the cesspool of futility.
During Franchione's three years at TCU, he led the Horned Frogs to their first bowl victory since 1957. Their first top-25 finish since 1959.
