Hudson: still developing

He seems to have the talent, but the skillset is still developing.
He shows flashes, but sometimes it seems he tries to run before securing the catch.
If the route is past the sticks, just catch it at all costs.
He must be one of the best we have because we put him out there over and over.
I hope his development accelerates. He seems like a great teammate and a great athlete.

Wonder if we would be undefeated if Seth Williams was still here.
Looks like he was a 6th round pick and waived.
Hopefully Hudson can develop

He could develop into a good weapon, but I really don't see him ever being good enough to be a proper #1 WR in the SEC.

He played QB his JR and SR year of high school because they needed him to. So he’s rusty. Great athleticism but bad fundamentals.
I think he’ll get there

He is a Div1,SEC starting WR who drops the ball. I mean how many days has he practiced just catching easy passes and he still drops easy ones.
That is a deeper issue than practice and coaching. These guys rarely turn it around. If they drop balls, they tend to do it forever
I am always surprised how many easy drops these WR have. Im not talking about hard catches. Im talking easy passes. Baffling.

Sal Canella was similar. They both drop the easy ones and somehow catch the hard ones that make you wonder why the hell can’t they catch the easy ones.

It certainly seems that way. I've thought this many times. Same goes for ball security and certain QB tendencies.

I don’t know why but this made me laugh.

Yeah, it almost sounds like he just needs some good coaching and bit more experience.

He’s a solid SEC WR but needs more experience. However we need at least 2 elite WRs on the roster at all times. Ideally we could one every recruiting class. We have always had trouble getting elite WRs to come to AU but there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to

Actually all of our WRs outside of Canion were pretty high 4* players. Outside of Seth Williams none of the highly rated guys have panned out in the last 3 classes.

Ive said this before, many of the wide receivers on the team had a higher ranking than seth coming in, can they all be that bad?
I think Kobe will be just fine, he has dropped a few, and made some very difficult passes look easy.
And I too hoped Canion would get a few more thrown his way, he is a large target.

There is always that one kid that catches the miraculous pass during fall training cap...that no one forgets.
Being the pass dropper ...I was always glad to see stone hands go to the sideline and suddenly my receiver corps gained by one.

How much coaching at this point do they need to just catch the ball? They are on a top 25 program as a WR. At some point in the past 15 years, they should have learned how to catch a ball. It’s not like it’s a nee thing. I’m not talking about reading defenses, learning stunts or analyzing a defense here. We are talking about one of the most basic principles of football
Catch a ball. A easy one.

A lot of thinking going on out there instead of just playing. Big transition going from Gus ball to learning how to play in a real offense. I expect much of these things to dissipate for the team as a whole the last few games and next season. Now Kobe individually, maybe he just can't consistently concentrate.

I keep telling you.
Get him stickem.

Hudson has been our best receiver this year in term of yards (behind only Shenker), and 2nd in receptions (behind Robertson). He was the leading receiver in the two games before LSU and was the only guy who could catch a pass against Penn State.
He had a rough day Saturday, but his one catch was a big one. A difficult catch that was the longest play in a 75 yard touchdown drive when we were down 2 scores. Ultimately he has been a pleasant surprise for us this year in my opinion. Guy was playing QB in HS and I really didn’t expect to him beat out some of the other guys we have at receiver this year. I think he is only going to get better throughout his career.

This really is a big deal. These guys are actually having to read coverages and make decisions based on what one or more defenders are doing. They have to see it, make a choice, and execute all while hoping that the QB is seeing the same thing you are.
There is a lot more to it that Gus and his 4 verticals route concepts. The WR positions was done a horrible disservice under the Gus Malzahn system. You only need to look at what Darius Slayton has been able to do in the NFL and go back to his days at Auburn and see what a drastic difference having good coaching can do for some of these guys.
