We were the first televised sporting event following 9/11. We played South Carolina. Had players from each team walking out a huge American flag

We played the 1st game after the weekend following 9/11 as all games were cancelled. We played South Carolina the Thursday night following the cancelled weekend.

That’s crazy. I was 8. I had no idea how to grasp the gravity of the situation when it happened. I remember being scared to go get my trash can at the end of our long driveway because Al Qaeda said they would target small towns in the US. I remember everyone coming together. Nothing else mattered. I wish we could find a way to bring everyone together again like we were on 9/12.

Oh yeah I forgot about all that. Columbia AFB had fighters scrambling in the airspace. It was surreal.
