His take is so stupid and makes zero sense. There is literally no "con" to CFP for West Virginia nor any other school. Bigger playoff, more opportunity. It seems like he just wanted to get popular for saying stupid shite. He provides zero reasons for potentially voting no.

Why in the world would anyone outside of SEC, B1G, ACC or P12 be against expansion?? Makes no sense

It's very simple why any program or conference outside of the SEC is suddenly against a 12 team playoff. Less likelihood for there to be multiple SEC teams.

Looks like the SEC expansion is going to backfire. The big rush was a mistake. If they were determined to do it, should have been after the playoff expansion to 12 teams was signed, sealed, delivered. The team it will probably hurt most is Oklahoma. They were a near lock to the playoffs in the Big 12. Will not be a lock in the SEC.

If you’re the ACC, B1G, or Pac12, are you signing up for a playoff that makes it likely we’ll have an all-SEC title?

I agree that it doesn’t make much sense for WVU to oppose expansion unless they get an ACC invite. Under the proposed 6 AQ format, WVU would be a playoff contender regularly in the new Big XII.

4 power conferences and 4 playoff bids sounds a lot more appealing to me if I’m the Ohio State AD than a playoff with 4/12 teams from the SEC.

Gee was once President at Ohio State, then Vanderbilt and now WVU. He has served at Ohio State twice, also served at UC Boulder and Brown. He has several times in the past put his foot in his mouth.

Way too much money would be left on the table to keep a 4-team playoff. Even if 4 SEC teams made the playoff, you still have 8 non-SEC teams in the playoffs and no conference is going to turn down that revenue, just because they are butthurt that SEC is a powerhouse that can't be stopped.

His statement shows weakness, cowardness, and financial ineptitude. Also, I'm pretty sure all these non-sec schools would rather have a greater chance to play for a championship rather than to make it harder for SEC to have two teams in championship games.

I’ve never seen more than 4 teams worthy of a spot? I’ve rarely seen 4 teams worthy of a spot?

I could care less because we will be there regardless.

The real money is in the enrollment boost from your team winning. That’s why almost every dollar that comes into an AD gets reinvested into the AD to try to win more.

Does it give them a greater chance? The narrative was more inclusion when we went from two to four, and the opposite has occurred. The only “benefit” for a program like Michigan State has been they get to have their arse kicked in a playoff instead of playing in the Rose Bowl.

I agree with this.

Good. The playoffs should be exclusive not inclusive.

It wasn't the SEC clamoring for it to start with. This playoff expansion came from many of the same sources that eliminated the BCS era. That wasn't the SEC.

End of the article -

quote:

Gee acknowledged that West Virginia and the rest of the Big 12 was not a part of this alliance due to its ties for the next four years with Oklahoma and Texas.

“The Big 12 is not in that alliance, at the moment and part of the reason is the fact that we still have four years of being a Big 12, because we own all the media rights to Texas and Oklahoma,” Gee said. “The others didn’t want to have Texas and Oklahoma in on their parade.”

The Pac has already said why they want to wait on expanding the playoff.

Apparently if the CFP expands now there is a clause that extends the current TV rights deal with ESPN into the mid 2030s.

Pac and Big 10 want the playoff TV rights to go to open market b/c they believe that the payout would be bigger and they don't want ESPN to have control of the entire thing.

It makes total sense on their end and honestly anyone who wants the current conference alignment to last should be on their side too. It's clear as day that ESPN directed Texas and OU towards the SEC in an effort kill the Big 12s upcoming bargaining power when their TV rights deal is out. If the other conferences can't work together ESPN will continue to whittle them all down to create their own version of the NFL.
