Harsin’s scheme simply doesn’t fit with Auburn’s personnel

Hiring a coach to implement a mostly west coast, “down hill” offense with a roster full of people who were recruited for and built for a zone spread scheme is a recipe for disaster.

A poster on another board did a great film breakdown and compared the offense to a Jim McElwain offense, circa Bama years. Spot on.

Tank Bigsby might be the only player on the entire offense who is capable of being successful in both systems.

These next couple of years are going to be painful. I’m disappointed in Auburn fans’ willingness to lay down and take it.

Here’s a pre-snap whirly bird, coming to an SEC Stadium near you if Auburn ever gets to a goal line.

It happens during changes. If Harsin is the guy then it'll be worth it. If not they'll enter a Tennessee type cycle until they find the right guy.

If that's the offense they want to run then they definitely hired the wrong OC for the job as well.

Why is clever play-calling made fun on here? I also think Harsin will be a failure, but that is an innovative play. It clearly worked.

That's what happened with us and Matt Canada a few years ago. O said frick it, we don't have a couple of years and scraped it mid-season, fired Canada, and put in Ensminger.

So you are showing me a play, where the team and the play you are criticizing we’re successful in that they scored a TD and they were up by double digits on Oregon, but somehow this is a negative??? SMH

Well when 40 percent of the team comes down with Covid, or is isolated because of covid protocol, and half the season is forfeited, the scheme really won't matter will it?

All this payout money to Gus, in addition to $5 million salary, to get a coach who is a cultist and refused to do what was best for his job, players, fans... Well good for you Harsin and your "principles." Just like a couple of golfers who forfeited millions for not being vaccinated, he should be fired with cause and forfeit his millions.

PS at the trump rally yesterday, people booed when he told them to get vaccinated. dam... there are some stupid azz people, even in Alabama though most are obviously barners.

I can't wait to see how Tank does in the new offense. I think it is better suited for him than whatever Gus and Chad Morris were doing last season.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this season and think 7-5 with an Outback Bowl tier bowl is realistic. Considering the personnel were not recruited for Harsin's system will obviously hinder the team, but if the talented players actually develop under this staff then we should do ok.

I know he is an easy target to pick on, but Bo Nix has not progressed at all from his first game in Dallas vs. Oregon through last year's bowl game vs. Northwestern. The OL hasn't demonstrated improvement in years. Kerryon Johnson is one of the few players recruited by Gus that I can say actually improved during his time on the Plains, and Gus ran his arse into the ground in 2017.

The fact that guys like Kerryon Johnson are the exception to the rule re: Gus's lack of player development shows why he had to go (along with his atrocious record against UAT, UGA, and LSU away from JHS).

Harsin will need time, but Lord knows we are an impatient bunch when 2 of our 3 biggest rivals are regularly in the CFP discussion and another has won a CFP title.

Well, that's one thing Harsin is retaining from the Malzahn era.

Good point, except that you can hardly call what Gustav has been running the past few seasons a 'zone spread' offense. And to the extent it still had elements of that scheme, he had recruited guys that didn't fit (like the half dozen or so TEs on the roster he hardly every used).

That said, there's some truth to your critique, which is why I expect us to struggle this year, as we did in '81 when Dye installed the wishbone to replace Barfield's power I/veer, or in '99 when Tubs tried to go to implement a power running game with Bowden's leftover RBs.

As for "Auburn fans' willingness to lay down and take it", what do you suggest we do instead?

Perhaps we should have set Harsin up with an ugly stripper and a University-issued credit card, but he's neither as stupid nor as morally compromised as the last HC hire your fanbase disapproved of.

You know even in the one clip you provided, that was a simple overload HB blast play. Everybody has a variation of it. I’m not even an auburn fan but when I see people who have most likely never touched a football field give obviously biased takes it makes them look really stupid. Do your actual homework.

Eh I feel like the Boise St offense has been successful because it can adequately do both down hill runs and formation out-flanking stuff. It is similar to the McElwain offense in that regard.

I think the passing offense is going to be the inconsistency. They ought to be a pretty solid run offense in 2021.

Interesting to find a gif of our new coach going up by 3 TDs against Oregon with a Mountain west program and using it to say he’s gonna fail.

Arky & Auburn will be fighting for last place in the SEC West. Book it.
