We've benefited from the ACC being a hot pile of garbage. With the SEC expansion, it seems like its only a matter of time before the other conferences are relegated to second-status citizens.

One topic we've been discussing on another board is the idea of going independent. If (and lots of ifs, so bare with me) a streaming service like Amazon were to come along and offer enough money to go independent and have your games streamed on Amazon Video, would you do it?

I know others have been talking about Notre Dame possibly needing to join a conference, but why? When they've been good enough, they've made the CFP. And in a world where the CFP expands to 6 or more teams, doesn't that lessen the need to be in a conference?

Given how awful the ACC TV deal is, I can't see how the team can stay in this league.

Your ACC TV deal is so ironclad and extends so far into the future I don’t even understand your point of discussing breaking it.

Clemson is on an upswing, but reality is they don’t have enough history, and likely enough future to be an independent. Enjoy the high, you guys will be mediocre again soon enough and FSU and Miami will, once again, push your shite in.

Why would the SEC want Clemson?

We already got the South Carolina market, already have a better football team(s), already have better overall athletic programs.

Not even trying to troll, what does Clemson offer?

To actually engage with your question.....I agree with the guy that says that independents are probably going to have to find a safe haven in a conference. ND has been able to maintain their status because of the huge national fan base and that exclusive contract with NBC. It's no insult to say that neither Clemson nor any other school you can name would not be able to command that kind of deal. Texas has contemplated independent status off and on, but they've never pulled the trigger, and I suspect the main reason is that they see it's ultimately not in their interest.

I know the Big 10 and Pac 12 are in "discussions" about ways to cooperate in order to counteract the growing influence of the SEC. Is the ACC in on that action? I do know that the ACC has firm control over each team's TV rights for many years, so I don't think Clemson could up and leave even if they wanted to.

I'm an SEC fan through and through, but the game is better when there are good, even great, teams scattered all over the country and that, in any given year, a number of teams from different conferences (and not always the same 3 or 4) might have a legit shot at a natty. I'm quite frankly worried about where all this is heading.

Personally I think the the new age of CFB there should be no independents.

You are either in one of the major conferences or you are out of luck.

That applies to Clemson if they go that route but more specifically Notre Dame.

Maybe convince Ohio State and Penn state to leave their shitty conference. They're as much Atlantic Coast as Oklahoma is Southeastern.

I think the real answer will eventually be four 16 team super conferences not affiliated with the NCAA. For better or worse it'll be a quasi professional system with NIL arrangements with all sorts of sponsors and a playoff system to determine a champion. Amateurism is dead and gone (it really has been for a while. Now it's out in the open.). The big boys of college sports will go their own way.

Just my opinion.

Clemson is about to realize what real knuckle-drag week in and week out football is like.

The problem is going to be scheduling.

The Big 12 is either going to disappear or fade into irrelevance. None of the big conferences will take any of those teams because it's a money losing deal. None of the teams remaining increase TV contracts enough to make up for cutting an extra piece of pie. Once the revenue dries up, those teams will get weaker and will no longer be significant.

Clemson leaving the ACC will likely do the same to it.

The Pac-12 and the Big-10 are either going to make a scheduling deal or merge (The Big Pac?) So their schedules and the SEC schedules are going to be tough enough they won't want to play you.

So all you are going to get is a weak schedule of games with limited interest.

You own the ACC.

I think the ACC will be made bigger and better and be one of the big 4.

No major conference will be a joke.
