As rumors about the SEC moving closer to adding Texas and Oklahoma persist, the Big 12 is reportedly making an effort to keep its two signature programs from jumping ship.

Per Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, Big 12 officials are discussing a new financial structure that would increase revenue for Texas and Oklahoma.

According to Dodd, the structure "would grant the Longhorns and Sooners an additional half-share annually (1.5 shares each), bumping their payouts to approximately $56 million per year."

In order to make the revenue balance out, the other schools in the conference would decrease their annual payouts.

Dodd did note the topic came up during a conference call with conference officials and Big 12 Commissioner

Classic Big 12.

An even weaker Big 12 and more money is going to be tough for UT to turn down. That's what they've wanted in every prior realignment.

I’m not seeing this having any effect. The B12 is dead.

Don’t they already get extra revenue?

If OU/UT bite on this they’re leaving themselves behind in the long run. More money now but potentially reacting to future changes later when things inevitably compress to four conferences.

They have to fork over 80 million, so this could delay the inevitable.

It's worked before. How do you think they kept UT and OU back in 2011?

They offered the same deal to A&M back then, but we had the balls to give them the finger and make our move. Not sure UT has the balls to do the same. Their whole history is beating up on cupcakes. It's the only reason they're a "blue blood."

The problem with this is the Big-12 has had their “rating” lowered from AAA to AA due to the implicit actions of the broadcasters. There is nothing the Big-12 can do to repel this broadcaster assessment because it jives with reality. The product top to bottom ain’t good enough even though it has Texas and Oklahoma football plus a dominant men’s basketball conference.

The die is cast. Maybe Texas and Oklahoma take the deal but it is just prolonging the inevitable. Eventually the concessions to UT+OU will cut so deep that the other 8 schools cannot afford to go any deeper without shuttering their programs or leaving the arrangement.

It's not like we didn't tell them this was coming. They laughed, as I recall.
