Va Tech or NC State.
Culture and footprint works with either of them.
The VT folks I know are alright
NC State strikes me as very low value, it's like the 4th most prestigious school in NC and not exactly and elite brand or athletic school

Virginia Tech would be a great addition. Good school, solid fanbase who support football and basketball, opens up the DC market (tons of Hokies in NOVA), immediate synergy with Tennessee/Kentucky, from a "southern" state (in the oldest definition of them).

I have no real love for Oklahoma State but it's a school that deep south fans would immediately get along with and bringing in a rivalry is always worth something.

They're fun. Kinda small. Kinda wierd. Real small town. But they're dedicated fans and they have fun on gameday. Kinda like MSU. They even have a wierd noisemakers like MSU with their paddles. Makes for a fun road trip.
They've become my favorite Big 12 team since we left. I like seeing them do well.

OSU would be a great cultural fit. Solid in the big 3 sports across the board as well.

Florida State and Clemson. I'd prefer both of them over really any other P5 schools. They make the most sense geographically and culturally. North Carolina and/or UVA would probably be next on my list.

frick it bring them both

Culturally I don't get the FSU calls. But then UF isn't exactly the same as Ole Miss either. It's obviously sensible from a geographic standpoint, but guessing UF would go to war on it.

and maybe with Virginia Tech, we'd get a yearly matchup with them and Tennessee at Bristol

You don't? Tallahassee is basically like southern Georgia. They're more cultarally similar to most of the SEC than Florida is

no, and USC would never go for Clemson. I wasn't posting necessarily realistic options, just my personal preference

FSU brings nothing to the table from a money, markets, or an academic perspective.

Tallahassee has a lot of urban/thuggy culture too, similar to Louisville fans IMO but without the twang. I've always found it to be a weird mix down there.

I'm from NC so I'd love for UNC or State to join. UNC seems to run that conference so I doubt they'd leave

If I was in charge.. here is what I would do:
Add Clemson, FSU, Miami, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UNC, Duke, Kansas & Louisville/Georgia Tech
Result: 24 teams
Big 12
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Missouri
SEC West
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Miss State
SEC East
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
Louisville
ACC Division
FSU
Miami
Clemson
South Carolina
UNC
Duke
Football, Basketball & Baseball would be ridiculous. I have no idea how the scheduling would work, but it you would have the entire market from Texas to Florida to North Carolina to Kansas. 100% Coverage. The only debate was Louisville or Georgia Tech, and that is a tough call imo.
You could print money with this deal. Who wouldn’t be happy?

In fairness I think FSU has made some big strides academically using some of the same USNWR tactics you guys did
