You have 3 potential 1st round picks in your starting lineup with Flannigan, Smith, & Kessler & a solid core of role players around them. If Auburn doesn't win the SEC regular season, SEC tournament,or NC. Is it a somewhat a disappointment?

Hard to put it in those terms. There are other teams with as much talent and more experience. If we stay healthy and aren't a factor in any of the 3 then yes I'd say it would be somewhat disappointing.

Nah. I think basically any of us would be happy although maybe left wishing for more if say...

1. We don't win any of your listed championships but we win 25+ games overall and lose a tough Sweet 16 game to a really good opponent

OR

2. Kinda struggle and make the tourney as an 8 or 9 seed but then make a run to the Final Four

among many other possible acceptable scenarios.. those 2 just popped in my head.

But overall, yes we all expect some version of a successful basketball season.

Exactly. Guard play will determine our season like anyone else. Sweet 16 would be good.

Team chemistry will be important. Very talented group but can they play together as a team? Might take a while to find their groove.

Sweet 16's are great..................but to recruit how we want, Elite 8's are necessary.

I guess I'm just in awe that we're AU alums/fans and we're talking about Sweet 16's, and how that isn't good enough to recruit like we need to. ISN'T THIS GREAT?!?! Never in my lifetime would I have even joked about converastions like these. It would be absurd, and yet here we are.

It is insane.

I wish Dad was around to see it. He followed decades of shitty Auburn bball teams.

Flannigan is a first round pick?

If we make the tournament, it’s a top 10 season of Auburn basketball.

If we win SEC, it’s top 5.

Our basketball history is the 1980s, Cliff Ellis, and mostly Bruce.

I can't believe this thread actually exists. Let's all just take a moment to stop and appreciate how far we have come

Failure is not to make the tourney. I'd be thrilled with an elite 8 appearance.

I think you guys are overselling our talent a little and with the tournament set up it's a total crap shoot. That said, we should have a team that can compete in the tournament and that's all you can really hope for.

Projects as such in a lot of mocks. He was likely looking at the 2nd round this year.

That’s impressive.

The draft is worldwide. I thought Okoro looked the part.
Cooper looks like it.

Flanigan, he’s solid college starter.
Good luck to him.

I guess wings who can guard 1-4 are very valued in the league.

They'll gamble on elite defenders that need some offensive polish in a heartbeat. Okoro is just one example.

If Isaac continues his offensively development he'll basically be a Jimmy Butler clone.

If Sharife Cooper and JT Thor had returned, yes.

Now? I want to see us compete, make the NCAA tournament and then see where it goes.

Basketball is the hardest national championship to win imo. Football, you see what Saban and Dabo have done. Basketball can literally be ANYONE. You go on a run in March and weve seen what can be done. In football right now it’s pretty much Alabama and Clemson. If we make the tourney (remember this is AUBURN basketball we’re talking about) it’s a win in my book. If we make the sweet 16 it’s an even bigger win. If we make the final 4 it’s a dream season... like ‘19. If we ever win a championship in basketball I’m going to Vegas the next day and putting 10k on red cause something is about to go down in the world.

The problem with that logic is 2 fold.

1. You said it...'potential'. When its potential there is definitely an unknown to whether this group can get us to those levels.

2. Only one of these players mentioned was on the roster last year. So Pearl has to get at least 4-5 players integrated into his offense/defense and schemes. Only Flanigan has shown he can produce consistently in SEC games.

My take is more of, If we start slow trying to find the starting 5 and the super subs, then I hope by mid SEC we show we can be in the upper level of the SEC by end of season and make a run in the NCAAs.

I don't see an SECC or NC in this group....for now.

I just want to finish top 3 in the SEC, and a good draw in the NCAA, after what we went through this year (oh and beat Alabama twice, and get us back to dominating instate). :)
