Karma served on UGA radio announcers that day:

A QB run into the endzone as opposed to a true freshman QB, who never started a college football game, just took a huge sack in the most critical situation of the game, picks himself up, with the pressure of the world on his shoulders, then with uncommon poise even for a senior, proceeds to look off a double high safety set and hits another true freshman on an incredible 2nd and 26 in OT for the NC? Please.

I didn't say the VY play would win the argument. But plenty of people would argue it. In fact, had the word "certainly" not been in the post I was replying to, I would not have said a word. I am a bama fan, so I love 2nd and 26.

As a fan of neither team, Vince Young’s was infinitely better.

I can understand someone saying Vince Young's TD run was a better moment. But infinitely better? Come on now.

Better game. Stuffed 4th and 2 with 2 minutes left. Young took them down the field with no timeouts. 4th and 5 national championship on the line 8 yards out. 2nd and 26 was great. Vince Young singlehandedly defeating USC with 4 seconds left to win the national title is the greatest ending of all time.

And Tua Tagovailoa came off the bench, his team down 13-0 at halftime, to singlehandedly lead Alabama to a 26-23 OT victory on the last play of the game. A walk-off touchdown on 2nd & 26 from the 41-yard line to win the national championship, at least in my opinion, beats 4th & 5. Especially when you consider the fact that Alabama had no kicking game. There was no way our FG kicker was making a long field goal after missing a chip shot at the end of regulation.

ETA: When Vince Young scored against USC, there were still about 20 seconds left to play. Not four seconds.

I mean, he was one of the three total Heisman finalists, all of which balled that game, who had gained close to 500 yards and then made his play on 4th down to beat a team that had won 34 straight. Not to mention he proceeded to look off an all pro middle linebacker and then ran past a 13-year NFL vet.

I understand what you are saying, but Vince Young was a proven commodity and most knew what to expect from him. No one knew anything about Tua except for Bama fans and they didn't even expect him to play that well. That's why 2nd and 26 is more dramatic than young's great performance

It's widely considered the biggest game. And the advantage was that it was Texas and USC--it was multi-coast so it had national attention.

Bama Clemson, both times (not the arse whipping) was every bit as back and forth, and nail biting. And while Alabama has the brand, Clemson did not, and we were both Southern.

Same thing with UGA Bama. Too regional. Exciting for Bama and Georgia fans for sure.

I think 2nd and 26 will hold up a long time. That was a walk-off win after a a huge sack, a huge 2nd half comeback, after a GOAT decision to start a true fresman in the 2nd half of the national champpionship game. And we had a big goose egg starting the second half, when he came in.

If it's not one of the biggest plays in CFB championship history, I don't care. It's certainly Bama's most memorable and most significant play. Devonta just added MORE meaning to it this year.

Wait until you see how the Barn melts down when the season starts. They are going to be dreadful this season. I wonder how long they will blame Gus Malzahn before they start beating the drum to fire the Boise boy.

And your opinion involves your team, so it’s going to be more bias.

I drink the tears of bulldog fans and even if with that satisfaction, Vince Young beating USC was a better and more epic game. Period.
