How elite was Miles at building a roster?

With LSU in a death spiral, we can appreciate how well Miles was at roster management and hiring coaches. Can't believe LSU went from Aranda to some random DB coach.

When O took over, LSU had no quarterback or quarterback development, talent along both the offensive and defensive lines had majority decreased, and there were more fullbacks on the roster than scholarship wide receivers.
You consider that good roster management?

Three national championships with our last three head coaches.

Miles was an elite recruiter but the roster was extremely unbalanced. When Aranda got to Br we had like 2 scholarship linebackers IIRC and like 7 scholarship OLineman in O’s first year.
I know tSECr likes to spout a lot of stupid shite, but this one takes the cake for how detached from reality y’all are.

You're conveniently ignoring the one year collapse post natty.
Elite, healthy programs do not do this. Well coached programs do not do this.
I don't now if it's the worst fall from grace, but it's pretty historic.

By now, you’d think they recognize that this is LSU football. National championships quickly followed by turmoil followed by more championships.

We played most of the season with fewer than 60 scholarship players and without 20/22 starters from the 2019 team and even some of their backups.
Has any championship team had that much turnover in one year? And also no spring practice and modified pandemic practice schedules to boot?
If you’re interested in being fair there is some legitimate criticism there to be had that I’d be happy to acknowledge and discuss, but you also have to concede there was a lot working against LSU in 2020 that was little to no fault of anyone in the program.
But of course you’re not interested in any of that as you’re looking to push your agenda, not have a level headed discussion about SEC football.

Miles took a Lambogine and turned it into a pinto.
His recruitment of skill players was off the charts.
Unfortunatly his use of said talent was criminal. His
ability to attract QB,OL,DL, is where he failed. He built
1 team the 2011 roster which was fantastic but after that
season and losses incurred his lack of recruiting the
trenches on a consistant basis doomed him.He was the most
hardheaded coach to ever win a championship.

This is an overstatement. Miles was a very good coach at LSU for a long time, if he had been willing to handle his OC hiring and delegating the way he handled his DC hiring and delegating he’d still be the coach today.

It was his weakest ability honestly. We’d have 10 NFL caliber DB’s at any time but we’d have one or two good OL, and horrible QB’s. He’d get great recruits, but he wouldn’t get them at the right spots.

Has any championship team had that much turnover in one year?
The better questions are:
How many of those were seniors?
How many juniors did you convince to stay?
How many players did you convince to not opt out?
The first question is the baseline, the second and third tell the tale of commitment to the team, school and coach.

Well now you're just exaggerating.
LSU lost 17/22 starters and 37 players overall during one offseason and likely go 8-4 if they play their normal schedule.

I gladly acknowledge there was some things outside of their control (the pandemic being the most obvious). The question becomes, "How well did they handle the things within their control?" I think that's where you'll find some folks with differing opinions.

I think most who pay attention would say LSU didn’t do a great job of managing the pandemic and the team generally in the spring or summer. They did get better though and by the end of the year the core of players they had gelled into an actual football team I was extremely proud of.
It’s one thing to be on top of your game when everything is going well, it’s another for young guys to take ownership of the program in the middle of a miserable season and rally together and win your last two games the way they did. We’ll see if they can carry that momentum into next season where instead of being without 20/22 starters they’ll be bringing that number back.
