Minimum of two starts.
That means no one and done's like Brandon Avalos, Blake Barnett, Cooper Bateman, or even David Palmer. That puts the candidates as follows:
Gary Hollingsworth (1990)
Danny Woodson (1991)
Jay Barker (1991-1994)
Brian Burgdorff (1995)
Freddie Kitchens (1995-1997)
John David Phillips (1998)
Andrew Zow (1998-2001)
Tyler Watts (1999-2002)
Brodie Croyle (2002-2005)
Marc Guillon (2004)
Spencer Pennington (2004)
John Parker Wilson (2006-2008)
Greg McElroy (2009-2010)
AJ McCarron (2011-2013)
Blake Sims (2014)
Jacob Coker (2015)
Jalen Hurts (2016-2017)
Tua Tagovailoa (2018-2019)
Mac Jones (2019-2020)

Not sure it's really close. Burgdorff and JD Phillips would probably be next, but they could make simple throws, and Phillips could run a little bit. Pennington and Guillon couldn't consistently throw 7 yard stop routes.
Plus Pennington cost us Game 1 of the Super Regional against North Carolina.

Star Jackson was better than Burgdorff and Phillips
JPW and McElroy look like Joe Montanan compared to those guys.

I remember actually being excited when Guillon transferred from Miami. And I can't even remember him starting multiple games. I must have blocked it out. He had more hype than Pennington, so he'd get my vote between the two who were clearly the worst.
The Worst
1. Guillon
2. Pennington
3. Burgdorff

McElroy in 2010 was 4th in the nation in passer rating and broke the school records for passing yards and TDs. Dumb

Relatively sure the only games he started were Arkansas and South Carolina, and he was pulled in the South Carolina game for Pennington (who came in and played as bad or worse).
South Carolina 2004 (L 20-3)
Guillon - 9/18, 63 yds, 3.5 YPA, 0 TD/2 INT, 57.2 QB Rating
Pennington - 1/6, 4 yds, 0.7 YPA, 0 TD/2 INT, -44.4 QB Rating
Combined - 10/24, 67 yds, 2.8 YPA, 0 TD/4 INT, 31.8 QB Rating
Pennington literally had a negative passer rating (-44.4)
I have to imagine this is the single worst statistical performance by Alabama QBs in program history. I was a new boy and that next week was the worst hazing of pledgeship. Fvckin those QBs.

Those were dark times.

1. Marc Guillon
2. Spencer Pennington
3. Danny Woodson
4. JD Phillips
I'd put 91 Jay Barker in there as well. He was pretty terrible that year, and even a lot of 1992. 94 was obviously a great season for him though.

Couldn't comment on them, didn't watch them.

Jay Barker's 18 yards and 2 picks in the championship game were pretty bad. Didn't lose though.

Spencer Pennington. He's legitimately one of the worst QBs I have ever seen start an SEC game. Marc Guillon transferred in from Miami, so we know he was good and Shula just held him back.

Man, probation had broken me at that time. I remember beating my chest that we were back, Bama had stolen a quality QB from Miami.

Wow.

Greg McElroy (2009-2010)? C'mon?

With Brodie Croyle participating sparingly during spring practice, Marc and freshman John Parker Wilson were able to get plenty of repetitions. Marc and John Parker finished spring bracketed at the No. 2 spot on the Tide depth chart at quarterback.
2004 (Sophomore): When Brodie Croyle, the Tide's starting quarterback went down with a season-ending knee injury against Western Carolina, Marc closed the game with 5-of-7 passing for 71 yards and one TD. He started the next week at Arkansas, but hit just 6-of-18 for 57 yards and one interception. The next week against South Carolina, he was 9-of-18 for 63 yards and two interceptions. He sustained a lower back injury in that South Carolina game that kept him out of the lineup against Southern Miss and Tennessee. Although he could have played in the remaining games, he did not see further action. With Croyle and Spencer Pennington limited during spring practice, Guillon got most of the reps during 11-on-11 drills. “He made huge strides,” said Mike Shula. Marc played in 75-of-91 snaps during the spring game, earning the Bart Starr Most Improved Quarterback award following spring practice. 2003 Redshirted Transfer from University of Miami

Yeah, the new narrative that Mcelroy was bad is ridiculous. He wasn't the most talented QB ever, but he was a very good college QB.
I don't know who was the worst. I've blocked out a lot of the 90's and early 00's due to the PTSD those years gave me.

How has nobody said Brandon Avalos yet......yes, he did start one game so he counts!
