I gotta admit that I was expecting him to come back but I wish him well.

Maybe it means Gilbert....j/k. I don't know how much he would have seen the field. Bills, Tennison and Latu would have had it locked up.
I have been watching Billinsgley in the Kentucky game specifically to see how much blocking he is doing and how often he was line up on the line and just off in the backfield. It is way more than I was giving him credit for. I am going to go back and look at the ND and OSU game as well.
I was impressed in his willingness and in most cases his effort. Really wish he had that George Kittles in him but he has some good blocks on Najee runs.

He missed the block that caused the fumble vs OSU in the Natty game

Pretty sure that was Billingsley that missed that block.

Yes, that was most likely his assignment although Forristall may have been responsible for it.
He may have missed a block earlier as well. That isn't really what I'm looking for. I'm looking at how much do they trust him on the line or in the backfield run block/pass pro, how well he does and the effectiveness of disguising him as a blocker so he can release into the route.

I don't think that was entirely Billingsley's fault. He was never going to make it there in time to pick Browning up.

It was Forristall who missed that blitzer pickup assigment (video). He didn't even check for an outside blitzer. Instead, he blocked down to his inside, which I doubt was his responsibility. The DE there was getting blocked by Leatherwood.

shite. So what? That was Mac 95% on Mac - he saw the blitzer and rather than go down, he tried to sidestep and was extremely careless with the ball.
And I was just watching a playback show and Billingsley threw some great blocks on some of those flair outs to Smitty and Metchie. Those guys owe a lot of their receiving success to people like Billingsley blocking on those passes or downfield after a catch.

It is a funny when he on the line, hand in the ground and you see number 19 at 235 pds, next to a row of jersey number 60-90s and 330 pds .

quote:not really sure how he could have gotten there. Billingsly is not slow, and he ran as far as he could, the osu guy just got there too fast. We used that look later to suck then in in that najee td, only difference was mac did the bootleg the other way on the td play

I think Billingsley is wasted as an inline blocker. He'll get bigger next year, but he needs to be moving across the formation and creating matchup problems. More of a Hback/WR hybrid than a old school TE.
But with Tucker gone and possibly Forrsitall, we don't have a lot of true TEs. Tennison is one. But even this year look how much time Kendall Randolph got at TE. So I think there is a spot for somebody to get some reps as the inline blocking TE. And I don't think it will be Billingsley or Latu.

Watching it again, based on how Ohio State's coverage reacts post-snap we probably would have scored on that play if someone just gets in Browning's way for a second. Mac probably knew it too, which is why he tried to sidestep the pressure even though the smart play there is to just fall down.

Last time I watched I remember OSU is playing single high and DeVonta beats Wade almost immediately, at the very least if Mac sees that it is 30 yards with DeVonta trying to beat the safety to the end zone.

Pierce Quick. He isn't as big as some of the other offensive linemen but is very athletic. Maybe they create a role for him like they did for Randolph. I'm also interested in seeing how Caden Clark and Robbie Outzs are used.

It doesn't look like they use him in that role much. Maybe 5-7 plays total in between the Kentucky and ND games I just watched. This is likely needed for personnel and formation reasons when they go tempo. He is usually offset, split wide or in a tight bunch.
Very much a willing if not always enthusiastic blocker. Executes wham blocks really well. Very strong blocker against DBs but doesn't get caught holding as the ball passes. Has trouble with linebackers and every once in a while you will get a whiff out of him. Still saw a lot more than I expected. The reality is he really blocked a lot and most of the time got the job done. Really interested how he evolves for next season.

Tucker in the end didn't see that many plays. I figure you see Billinsgley and Randolph continuing their roles and Tennison moves into the Forristall role. Latu, Clark and Outz then push Tennison and Billinsgley for time.

Randolph is back? He will be a contributor if so. The coaches have always liked him and he's an experienced player with good size. Basically a Michael Williams for us.
