Reading tRant, sounds like Napier was a real arse in his interview, unrealistic in his vision and had a condescending attitude. Sounds like we never offered and he pulled his hat out of the ring. I don't think Napier stated he was offered and turned it down, just will remain the coach for ULL. This seems to be BAU when a candidate knows he will not get the offer.

But as we know, Clark was never interviewed, much less offered. But he publicly rejected an "offer". To me, this was done to make Auburn look desperate with the media. He could have just kept his mouth shut.

Do these actions make you reconsider your feelings about these guys? I know I will be pulling for the opponent any time I see a Clark led UAB's scoreboard. I don't really fault Napier because that's how non-offered candidates usually respond.

Not really on Napier - I think that type of personality can be good for some coaches. I think Harsin has that a bit.

Never wanted Clark and loathed the thought of him being hired. However I never disliked him - really was apathetic to him - but the way he’s trying to fluff this as he turned down Auburn, he can kiss my arse and I hope he sucks

I really don't see why anyone would be surprised that Clark would try to pull a stunt to make Auburn look bad.

meh and meh

We got the best end of both of these deals. And hopefully we'll won't see these names again in an Auburn coaching search for a long long time.

Not really. I base my opinion of coaches on how successful I think they’ll be. Not how they make people feel.

Don’t care about Napier. If there was contact between him and AU then let him spin it however he wants. Clark on the other hand can eat a dick. No reason to create drama or flat out lie about it.

Think Auburn will give UAB a game now? Some Auburn folks support to UAB will be be gone.

Folks with 1/2 a brain know BC did not turn down Auburn, but this may explain why 90% of Bammers believed it.

Yep. Some of the Montgomery media guys were saying they remember being around Clark in his days at Prattville High and the pot shots he would take at auburn and their program as he steered his players to Alabama.

I realize if Auburn had offered the job to him he would have taken it and been loyal.

But since he didn’t get offered his comments that were debunked by Gouge only made look like he really is.

Liked Napier, have always thought Clark was scum. I lm just sad we won’t get to see a 2-8 team punk his arse in a bowl game.

Napier was my favored candidate going in. I also think (Cristobal likely not being realistic) that he had the damn job if he interviewed well.

So, logic states that he didn't interview well. Ergo, I believe the rumors of his arrogance.

Ergo, I'm glad I was wrong.

Nah, I'll continue pulling for UAB, and can't wait to check out the downtown stadium. Thanks though. It's not like it mattered much. It ruined the day for some of the reactionary turds on here, but we went to sleep and had our coach. No big deal, really.

I love how all of you were ready to rage against the machine, but as soon the machine tells you everything was a lie and there's nothing to see here, you put their boot directly in your mouth.

Clark maybe didn't have an offer, but they did have talks, and he did reject it because of insane contingencies.

I'm not interested in discussing it. We have our guy and I'm 100% behind him and him alone. WDE.

The most outrageous part of the rumors was that Clark turned down Auburn. Dude would give his left nut to be here or any major school in the SE.

I think “machine” everyone was ready to rage against was the idea of meddling boosters and not Gogue and Greene. Your point would be valid if Rane, Herbert, and the rest came out and made a statement.

I agree with AA7 that you misunderstand who the rage was against. Seeing Harsin's staff may give us a better understanding if there were contingencies. But I appreciate you responding.

I get that you played for and admire Clark, but are you disappointed in how he handled it? I don't recall ever seeing a coach state why he turned down a job and throw it back at the search committee. That's burning a bridge, not only with the university itself but with members on the committee that may move to other positions at other universities.
