I can understand AU fans frustration with Gus. His scheme never evolved. His running game was creative and when on could be a load to handle, but his passing game wasn't up to par with what the game is now. Never really developed a QB himself.

Let's review:
Dye gets fired. Bowden comes in and goes undefeated the following season.
Bowden gets fired. Tubbs comes in and goes undefeated in 2004.
Tubbs gets fired and Chizik comes in and wins the national title.
Chizik gets fired and Gus comes in and takes us to the title game.
With this track record, I expect Auburn to be in title contention in the next three years. I swear it's like some of yall don't even follow college football......

It was the late season collapses that stood out the most. They would always start with high aspirations and then drop a game they shouldn't have before eventually losing to either Georgia or Bama or both.
The one year they didn't do the latter they got smoked in the SEC title game. Can't go out sad like that.
Very similar career as Sumlin. Had some good years and high hopes, but in the end had a very noticeable ceiling.
