Just because he's been offered a contract extension doesn't mean he has signed it yet

Although personally I think he will sign and will stay at Oregon

IMO the idea that a head coach would leave a job like Oregon to come to Auburn is always a bit ludicrous. If we made him say no then I am proud of our leadership. At least we made him say no.

I still tend to believe the Steele stuff is a smoke screen.

I expect to get a coordinator or mid-tier coach that will be a similar gamble as Gus and every other coach we've and most any other school has hired in history.

Its absolutely not. This is a better job. That conference is toast financially and look at what they just extended him to - its bottom tier SEC money. Their athletic department does not have the money to compete with the SEC in terms of program building, coaching salaries, recruiting potential, etc, etc.

We fricked this up with the shite-show thats going on; and he absolutely had interest in this job for a variety of reasons.

In regards to the search for a new head football coach at Auburn, I suggest that Coach Tony Elliott of Clemson be seriously considered. Coach Elliott is smart, energetic and very successful both on the football field and in recruiting. In hiring a coach like Tony Elliott, Auburn will receive wonderful press and an overwhelming degree of goodwill throughout the country. I feel sure football victories will follow accordingly.

Yeah that's all you've been saying for days for some weird reason. Mrs. Elliot, perhaps?

He's simply unqualified.

They literally lost their last coach to Florida State with no fight. They let Chip Kelly walk while he was dominating. That extension they gave Cristobal is an offer that we can beat with our eyes closed.

That entire conference is not doing well financially and the PAC12 is miles away from the SEC. He doesn't have carte-blanche to hire the best coaches he can find (we're literally paying Kevin Steele - the DC - almost as much as what Cristobal's HC salary was this year) and there's virtually no talent within hundreds of miles from their campus.

The infrastructure is nowhere near comparable, nor is the commitment to competing with the best. He had legitimate interest in this job and wanted back in the South where he's from anyway.

Que sera sera.
I think he would've been a good hire, but I was a little surprised to see so many Bama fans poo pooing him.

There is another option you and all of us may need to consider.

Auburn just may not be as attractive if a job as some think.

We have not attracted a big name coach. Like in any of our life times. Auburn has a lot of baggage. People do not want to admit it but it does. Coaches do not want problems when they take over a program.

In my opinion, Oregon is a way easier job and has just as much sex appeal as auburn.

I think Oregon overpaid, and I KNOW we would have overpaid. He recruits, okay, what else?

Give me Kiffin at Auburn and we burn down the SEC. Or maybe, at least, burn something down.
