Looking back to the reveal of the very first rankings back in 2014, it's really difficult to believe that these were the teams who were in contention for the playoffs back in those days:
And of the four teams that premiered in the original rankings, only Florida State actually made it to the playoffs that season.

I'd have to look back at the schedule, but chances are that the three that failed to make it had yet to play one another, guaranteeing three losses among them late in the season.

This is correct. We played Auburn late that year and State was our final regular season game.

Crazy to think about. Things seemed to change a lot in college football between 2014-15 and the same teams have dominated the sport since then (Bama, Clemson, OSU, Oklahoma)

IMHO they did that as a massive troll to get people talking about it. They knew it didnt matter because it would work itself out. It worked, people went crazy about the SEC having 3 teams involved. It got lots of hate which equals clicks and attention.

The 2014 SEC CG?
It was a 3 possession lead midway through the 4th qtr.
The game was never inside of 7 points except when 0-0

Was at the game against the cowbells. Sat by 2 state frat dudes and they hugged when dark scored and poured beer all over me. Worth it we won a title 5 years later and state made the outback bowl once lol
