Against Missouri. Franks played awful and was benched, Trask came in and played well.

Was named the starter and then broke his foot that week in practice.

Tired of ignorant people continuing to say Mullen played Franks over Trask for 2 years.

What happened when his foot healed?

And then Franks started over a healthy Trask in 2019, right?

Well, how is it wrong? Did you not just say that Franks started the game? And was Franks not the starter until he got hurt the next year?

Are you going to ignore that Franks started every game leading up to that Missouri game, and started every game after the Missouri game?

There were 8 games before the Missouri game and Franks started all of them. Trask never started a game in 2018.

True, should have played him the rest of the season with a broken foot. What was he thinking?

Dude. Hey. Mullen beat us. Congrats. But how in the world can you ever claim he was going to start any game in 2018 when he never did? There were 9 games he could have started and he didn't. But you know he was going to start the rest of the season. So....if he had won the job and Mullen thought he was the best QB, why didn't he start Trask in 2019?

Yea I mean I don't blame Mullen - just because Trask has been really good doesn't mean the risk/reward was worth making a change when Franks wasn't terrible.

It's a lot like the Hurts/Tua thing. You can't just yank your QBs around like running backs (unless you are Spurrier).

However, he could have started Trask against Miami in 2019. He didn't. He started Franks.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but that’s exactly what Merlins did. Every year during spring and fall practice, he’d say that they were essentially tied, neither QB was out-performing the other. And yet, he’d always pick Franks as the starter.

Of course, Merlins is the same coach that named John Brantley as the clear number two QB behind Tebow rather than Cam Newton. So his decision skills have always been questionable, as far as this ignoramus is concerned.

I agree. Hey. Franks had a ton of potential talent that just didn't get tapped. That is not a knock on Mullen. Some players just can't be reached....or maybe Mullen's style and Franks did not match up well. It happens. It was fortunate that Trask got his shot.

Think about this. If Trask could be overlooked...how many other QBs out there could never get a shot that could blossom into a great QB? It boggles the mind that Trask, if not for an injury might never have gotten a true shot.

Again. Not meant as a shot at Mullen. He didn't start in HS, and no other major program saw him as a recruitable player, either.

Except he did after 9 games in 2018 lol. If not for injury Franks may have never gotten another shot.

He clearly had his shot in 2018. Fate, luck, or w/e you wanna call took it away quickly.

Trask didn’t play all Spring in 2019.

Franks basically won the competition by default.

Brantley under Mullen would’ve been far better than Brantley under Steve Addazio.

Addazio was fricking terrible.

He was a 4th year junior? If he was the better QB that the coach thought should start then an entire fall practice would be enough to show that.

Anybody saying Mullen is dumb for sticking with Franks in 2019 is being an idiot, but come on now.

His foot didn’t heal until fall camp started. Franks had won the job basically.

I’m not saying that. I’m saying Franks had a good 2018, was coming off a good performance against Michigan and some were picking UF to finally unseat UGA in the East.

I will say there was some other crap going on behind the scenes too, but I’m not putting that on here.

Bro u dont have to cater to anybody. If they actually think he wasn't gonna reevaluate after Miami and UK they are nuts lol. Hell most thought next up was Emory Jones I think.

Mullen knew who had better control of the offense between those 2. Frank's was scoring 40+ the last 3 games of the yr. Offense went from 21 ppg to 35 ppg. Had to give em his chance

It was yr 2 still time to experiment. Also beating fla in 2018 meaningless u were fresh off title loss gators were fresh off 4 wins so yeah...

Absolutely - agree.

Also, Franks was maddening at times, but he was not terrible. And he was talented. And he seemed to fit what Mullen wanted to do.

And Trask hadn't started a game since 8th grade.

Anybody saying he was stupid for sticking with Franks is doing some serious revisionist history.
