coach in waiting has to many restrictions on it. the biggest being, no off campus recruiting. not worth the title, imo.

i am still a Cristobal fan based on him being a previous HC twice.

IF Sark becomes HC and proves himself well at say a place like Vandy then I would have no problem with him being top 3 on the list.

the coach at Louisiana is also doing good things

Vandy is probably beneath Sark, he could probably get a better PAC12 job for 2021.

If the NFL doesn't come calling again...

I don't understand why these guys want to stop being and OC or DC at Bama? Its hard working for CNS but they don't have to deal with media or other political BS. AAAAAnd, they get paid a shite load of money. I hope Sark is smart enough to stick around plus I think Bama made him a hella deal to do so.

I think Sark and the PTB would both like to see Sark get a trial run somewhere before handing the keys to the Ferrari. I don't see anywhere on the west coast coming open this year. Utah State is beneath him (they just fired Gary Andersen). This year, jobs will be scarce. I think he stays in Tuscaloosa one more season then gets a pretty good gig with someone like Cal or UCLA.

I mean, you're averaging almost 5,000 posts per year since you joined. You pretty much do live here.

Really? You don’t understand why an assistant or coordinator wants to be head coach?

Based on my latest calculation of our planetary rotation, my math says that coach Saban is in year 14 of a 20-year dynasty. Which means he has another good 6 seasons in him after 2020. Just how long can 6 years be in the SEC, you are probably asking yourself about now? Well, I've done some studying on that as well.

This is how the SEC head coaches were ranked and thought of 6 years ago in 2014 by ATHLON SPORTS:

1- Nick Saban - Alabama
2- Steve Spurrier - South Carolina
3- Gus Malzahn - The Barn
4- Mark Richt - Georgia
5- Les Miles - LSU
6- Gary Pinkel - Mizzou
7- Kevin Sumlin - TAMU
8- Hugh Freeze - Ole Miss
9- Dan Mullen - Miss State
10- Butch Jones - The Viles
11- Will Muschamp - Florida
12- Bret Belima - Arkansas
13- Mark Stoops - Kentucky
14- Derek Mason - Vandy

6 SEC years feels like a long time. If any of coach Saban's peers are still around perception of them has changed. Either they've worked themselves up the food chain (Mark Stoops) or down (Gus Bus) or is simply the coach at Vanderbilt (Derek Mason) The others have long gone.

My Jethro Bodine ciphering says by the time coach Saban says aloha to this dynasty in 2026 we're going to need a lot more threads on the subject.

yep, especially Sark. He can be very successful as the Bama OC and earn a shitload of cash and wait for the position to open up. He's been a HC before so he knows the headaches and how potentially unrewarding it is.

Sark has failed a few times. Maybe he sees value in sticking around and learning from the master.

Indeed! Both administrations hate sports. We had Sandy Barbour, who tried to do everything she could to run the athletic programs into the ground.
Including, allowing the baseball team to fold, had it not been saved through donations, and continually running a yearly deficit in the athletic budget.
UCLA has always been a basketball and Olympic sports school.

Both schools would rather focus on academics.
