Forget names at this point...let's talk ideal criteria for our new coach...
So we're looking for a conservative bible-thumping guy who graduates his players, doesn't recruit any thugs, is an innovative offensive-minded coach who can land stud offensive linemen and skill players and also runs a stout defense who can recruit players that compete with UGA and Bama, and who placates the golden goose boosters but doesn't cheat and competes for the college playoff every year and makes less than $7M a year with no buyout...amirite?

Yes that is the expectation and to put multiple first round picks in the league and most that graduate or leave early for the draft to be taken. So essentially every player getting to the NFL.
If you disagree then you don’t want what is best for Auburn. Because we can do it. In the next 50 years we have to run off about 30 SEC championships and 10 or so NCs that is all that will make anyone happy.

Must be the best coach ever. He must work for cheap, be able to beat all our rivals and use a tight end every once in a while

Keep us out of NCAA trouble.
Recruit well (Auburn always does this)
Adapt your schemes to fit your players strengths
Beat crappy teams like usc and Tennessee.
Win 50% of the games vs our rivals
It’s not some impossible feat.

I think most would be happy if our program was in LSU/Georgia territory. That's a fairly big ask but at the same time it's not like asking that we get someone like Saban.
10 win seasons 2 out of every 3 years including the bowl game.
Be around .500 vs LSU/UGA/Bama.
Be willing to completely change your system if that's what it takes.
Let the hallmark of your program be dominant OL/DL but let everything else be fluid.
Playoff appearance once every 5 years or so.

2014 TAMU
2014 Wisconsin
2015 Arky
2015 UGa
2016 UGa
2017 LSU
2018 MSU
2018 Tennessee
2019 Florida
2019 Minnesota
In none of these games were we overmatched, nor were any of these teams unstoppable juggernauts coming in. And in almost every case after the 2015 Arky game, our failure to manage any kind of offense was the primary reason for our defeat.

Compete.
Compete in the classroom.
Compete on the field.
Compete in recruiting.
Competent.
Look organized with a comprehensive game plan.
Limit penalties.
Limit offensive turnovers.
Use timeout appropriately.
Established a program of disciplined, unselfish, tough players and coaches.
Press any advantage.
Never yield.
Win most home games.
Win some road games against elite competition.
Lose by one score or less when a loss occurs.

Why the frick would I care if he’s conservative or a bible thumper? I’m more concerned that he doesn’t call people thugs than what his political or religious beliefs are.

These for sure. 2016 UGA and 2018 Tennessee about killed me. No excuse for those losses. The bowl games I don't really give a frick about because there are too many variables and if its not a major bowl or playoff game who cares.

I agree. I don't give a crap if we win a meaningless bowl game or not.
LSU and UGA I get the gripe but... have we fallen, stayed the same, or has LSU and UGA gone to another level?
I would say LSU and UGA have taken it to another level. Is that because of AU? No, in my opinion. It's the cycle.
Every coach we have had in the modern football era is about the same. When talent, experience, and schedule line up we generally have a really good team. If the ball bounces our way at some critical times we win championships. If it doesn't we are just a very good team. All other seasons we generally play our rivals close and lose to some goofy team we shouldn't. UGA has had our number lately. Not sure the reason for that but it will balance out. They are the most talented team in the country now but under perform in some big games.
It's time to change coaches at AU. When fans cheer for our team to lose it's time for a change. Is there a knockout up and comer I have no idea, is there a program history changing coach out there, I have no idea. Yet to be determinded. But will say again none of this is happening until end of '21. It's pure economics at this point.

Lanier you know a nothing bowl game only matters when we lose. People were calling for Brohm to be our next head coach if I remember correctly but we rolled up 50 in the first half and I think that crowd disappeared completely.

If you change your mind, Freeze is the first in line. He's basically free. Take a chance on Freeze.
If you need Freeze, let me know. Gonna be around. If you've got no place to go
When you're feeling down. Take a chance on Freeze. That's all I ask of Auburn,
Take a chance on Freeze.

Let me play devil's advocate here a sec.
For Hugh what QB has he developed from high school? Hasn't any QB that he's had been a transfer?

That was kind of my point. It's been the major sticking point for most of the fire Gus group.
