Observations from Auburn v. Georgia

After watching much of Georgia-Auburn game these are some observations:
- Georgia O line absolutely mauled Auburn 's D line. The looked like they played a lot of base 3-4 because Georgia wasn't doing anything that complicated. They were just ramming it down their throat and opening giant holes for the RB.
Stetson Bennet is also quite good. He's small, but he stands in the pocket well and doesn't panic. He isn't the most accurate guy ever, but he has a decent arm and doesn't bail and run around. His O line also gave him a lot of time.
-Auburn back seven are big and athletic. Their safeties look like our LBers. They cover can cover pretty well in the red zone. But you can also get open on them. Georgia hit a couple big pass plays.
- Georgia has the best special teams in the country. From kicker to punter yo coverage and return, they pinned Auburn on a long field the whole first half. It works hand in hand as to why their defense is so good. Their offense was also on the Auburn half of the field the whole time because Auburn could never flip the field.
Auburn's D for worn down just like ours. They were on the field the whole first half.
- Auburn (Chad) play calling leaves a lot to be desired, obviously. They couldn't do much against Georgia's front at all. Their O line was getting no push. When they actually got a little rhythm going and were able to run the ball somewhat effectively (3 - 4 yds/carry), they'd get in third down and Chad would call some dumbass, low % down field pass, all while Nix was getting heated up by pressure.
It was clockwork and brought back lots of bad memories of the qb rolling out of the pocket in panic mode then just chunking the ball down field to a covered receiver.
- Auburn ran some end around stuff, but they have Shwartz who is lightning on grass. I'd bet they try to do that slot against us. They're also going to try to run him deep. He's their #1 threat on offense. He was open deep a couple times, but Nix missed him.
Overall, our defense played way, way better than Auburn did, most notably against the run. Fowler and Herbstreit kept refenceing how much of an anomoly what Georgia did against Arkansas' defense was, constantly referring to them as a terrible unit.
Auburn has a good RB and one great all purpose offensive weapon in Schwartz and a decent receiver. Nix can move, too. When they did get the goal line on offense they couldn't do anything against Georgia's speed. Those plays probably would have scored on us.
I expect their game plan against Arkansas will be to test our LBers and our ends to set the edge. They will run it up the middle and to the outside, use the qb keeper/zone read to loosen us up, then go deep. They also run the screen a good bit.
We better be ready to swarm to the ball and run a lot in the flats and spy the qb. They're going to score on us, but they're not that polished. Then again, it was against Georgia, who is going to shut down lots of offenses.

We have to take into account that we are literally Wus’ Super Bowl. As much as I despise him, he hates us just as bad. I truly think he hired Chud just to spite us thinking Chud would be good there therefore it’s simply ‘Arkansas can’t win’.
If we happen to beat those sobs I will laugh so hard all babies in the tri-county area will be crying from the loud noise.

We get a win next week and I don't think a wood chipper could even dent my erection

I’m watching the end of UGA vs Aub now- I fully realize that our D while exponentially improved is no GA so let me get that out of the way but they have Nix so spastic he looks like a chicken with his head cut off out there. It’s not making me sad.

And we have a bit of a bonus for us. We have played GA already, and we have game film of Aub/GA as well. Hmmm! I likey!

Nix got progressively worse as the game went on. To quote the great Sam Darnold, he was clearing seeing ghosts out there by the end of the game.
It's also probably no coincidence that Georgia's D demorilized them and beat them up physically.
If we can pressure Nix and flush him without scramblimg, he's hot garbage. He also has the propensity to make some big throws at times.
It's going to be a dogfight for sure. Can we win? If that D comes like it did against Moo State and the 1st half of Georgia, absolutely. But the offense really needs to get some things figured out and we need to get our weapons back.
I don't think Boyd is going to play for a while, though. I figure he's probably got a high ankle sprain that could linger for weeks.

I hate to say it but our players should have some unique insights into how Chad Morris offense can be stopped.

I don’t see this one going our way. Talent gap is too wide. I kind of expect a let down for us and for auburn to be up after getting embarrassed at uga.
Look for Gus to try to run up the score on us late if he gets the chance.

Chad will be coordinator in name only soon. Everything he touches goes to shite and when he leaves it gets better.

I think we do great and shut them down for 2.5 quarters then our D gets tired. Especially if Briles doesn't get the offense going.

This is always Gus's super bowl, but the key difference this year is that the shoe is on the other foot.
Instead of Malzahn having an ax to grind, the dynamic now boils down to ~85% of our locker room hating Morris with a burning passion and likely wanting a chance to kick his arse for any number of reasons and slights from the last two years.
Here's hoping that Pittman, unlike our last two coaches, can handle success and keep the team focused after a big win.

I think Arkansas has to be better and convert when they get in the redzone. Don't leave points on the board and get predictable with the play calling. (PLEASE DO NOT RUN A REVERSE WITH HAMMONDS ) Don't give up too many big plays and sustain some long drives and hope you have a shot at the end.

Truth.
Dabo was already bringing in top-grade talent.
Those were the best players he ever had. Once he was gone, they went to the NCG 4 of the next five years.
Part of his problem is that he doesn’t know how to employ tight ends. When he’s forced to use them, he isn’t good

How would our players know how to stop something that never worked?

They scored what 29 on Kentucky?
Kentucky also gave up 35 to Ole Miss in regulation (so did Florida). Is Auburn's 95% as good as Ole Miss?
I don't know, but I would hope from what we've shown so far this season, Arkansss can play better defense than Kentucky.
Aurbun's average score so far is 17.5 points. Ours is 15.5, with both playing Georgia.
I expect this to be a very close game. Bottom line, they must get the offense rolling.

Said it in another thread but we run enough east/west shotgun crap the defense should be well prepared.
I want this one more than anything this year honestly.
Agree with generally all your points around the team and the offense. Hopefully Briles is capable of learning/adapting.
It got better this last game but still has a ways to go.
Franks can sling it, need to do all we can to give him obvious advantages with TE in the seam and low risk throws. We started doing it some against MSU and I'm hoping it continues as we see some more manageable D-lines.

Talking to a few of my Auby friends today that are seriously concerned about this game.
1. Chad Morris is a clown, bad hire.
2. If Gus loses he’s toast. (Not
sure how they’ll fund his buy out)
3. Bo Nix is rapidly regressing
4. Georgia owned them on defense and Gus has no answer.
5. If we can hit the short crossing routes they’ll
Get burnt.
Finally, they are praying Boyd won’t play.
Beat Auburn and send Chad packing.
