Howdy Ags! This past weekend one of our own was in a horrific accident while volunteering in Lake Charles for the hurricane relief efforts. Brandon ‘16, was on top of a church and hit a live wire which flung him off of the two-story building and onto the concrete below. He is in critical condition and undergoing numerous procedures for his many injuries in Houston. Brandon served our country as a marine before attending Texas A&M to obtain his bachelors in agricultural economics. He has a servants heart, loves Aggie football and will be sure to flash his big smile every time you’re around him. He has a passion for entrepreneurship and is one of Dr. Ed Risters “survivors”. His friends and family have put together a GoFundMe and if you feel so inclined to donate, please do so as he has a long, tough road ahead. Please keep him in your prayers and send positivity his way! Thanks and Gig’em!

I used to do roofing during the summers when I was in High School and am very thankful I never got hurt. Very dangerous up on a roof and most people don't even realize it.

Will donate later to his cause. I'm not an Aggy, but a fellow Marine and wish my brother the best in this painful time.

That's terrible. I've seen several of these injuries in what I do, and they are extremely bad. It's a long road to recovery.

I hate to hear this. I will be praying for him. Very sad as he was volunteering, to help other people, now he needs help. People in Lake Charles are really hurting. Why isn't the media reporting it?

TODAY
by Danielle Scaife, Organizer

Good morning! Today, the primary focus for Brandon is getting his pain under control. They are weaning him off of the sedative and replacing it with anti-inflammation meds and muscle relaxers. However, he has developed a higher fever so they are treating it accordingly. Congestion is developing in his lungs so they are attempting to prevent this from becoming pneumonia. He is coughing up phlegm which seems to cause him pain since his right lung is very bruised. The Dr. said its like pressing a bruise every time he breathes in and out! So, our prayer request is that he will not develop pneumonia, that the fever will go down, and that the pain medication will help subside his pain. They have not yet decided on the trach but it seems that is the way they are leaning for tomorrow as well as putting in a feeding tube. The promise we trust today is found in Psalm 84: 11-12,

"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you"

We are trusting and He is blessing! We have been given Christian doctors and nurses watching over Brandon. We have found favor from the Lord indeed! Find favor, honor and blessing from the Lord today as you trust in Him for all your needs!

YESTERDAY
by Danielle Scaife, Organizer

Hello friends and family! Our report for today is about rest. Brandon is in stable condition and still sedated. However, they will begin the process of waking him up gently so as not to increase any agitation or distress. That means, today and tomorrow, since he has already endured three surgeries in such a short time, they are going to let him rest. As his sedation wears off, they will from time to time see if he responds to their commands. If he is having trouble waking and responding by Friday, they will trach him and put in a feeding tube. With that said, our prayers are during this resting stage he will experience a decline in the brain swell as well as continued healing to those areas where he had surgery.

Since it is a resting day, I am reminded of Psalm 116:2-7 which says,

"I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me,

therefore I will call on him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!” Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

Indeed, both Brenda and I realized that death encompassed us because it was a possibility that Brandon would not survive this accident. We, along with all of you, called on the name of the Lord and He has dealt bountifully with us. Therefore, we rest! This means we trust in God and His plan for Brandon and for His own glory. By trusting we can be at peace. One of my heroes of the faith, George Muller, said,

"As long as we are able to trust in God, holding fast in our heart that He is able and willing to help those who rest on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and in all matters that are for His glory and their good, the heart remains calm and peaceful. It is only when we practically let go of faith in His power or His love that we lose our peace and become troubled. Remember, that it is the very time for faith to work when sight ceases. The greater the difficulties, the easier for faith. As long as there remains certain natural prospects for help, faith does not rise up as when all natural prospects fail. . . Faith is above circumstances. No war, no fire, no water, no business panic, no loss of friends, no death can touch it. It goes its own steady course. It triumphs over all difficulties. Those who really confide in God, because they know the power of His arm and the love of His heart as demonstrated in the death and resurrection of His only begotten Son, are helped, whatever their trials and difficulties might be."

I pray today that not only as Brandon is resting, you, too, will rest on the promise of salvation that is in Jesus Christ. His call to you is "Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
