With 10 game season, is 7-3 about right for AU with Gus?

8-2 the ceiling?

Is 5-5 the floor?

Yeah but 8-2 isn't the ceiling (although I wouldn't expect anything higher). 6-4 is probably the floor. Gus doesn't let seasons get completely out of control.

Unfortunately this season will be hard to gauge. Under normal circumstances, if Gus couldn't show a ton of progress with his buddy as OC and a talented QB born for the program, then I'd say the experiment is over, we've seen enough. Probably more difficult to judge this one, though.

On that question, last year probably ensured Gus got to 2021 regardless, but I think COVID guarantees that unless it's a total disaster.

A season where Arky and Ole Miss are your cupcakes is going to be very, very interesting. No breaks, all arse kicking all year.

You have a good point.

Fairly easy to go 8-4 with an FCS, a Sun Belt, and a CUSA tent a win.

4-4 in league, gets you to 7-4. Then win a close PAC12 game.

Will this schedule get us to more people f a 9 game conference schedule going forward?

As much as it pains me to admit it, I think 4-5 losses is more Gustav's MO than 8-9 wins.

Stripping away the 3 OOC gimme games drops this season (if it indeed happens as scheduled) down to 6-4 as the most likely outcome.

Kentucky
@UGA
Arkansas
@Ole Miss
@ South Carolina
LSU
@ Mississippi State
Tennessee
@ Alabama
Texas A&M

I don't see him winning @UGa and @Bama, and catching LSU in midseason form looks like an L too. Although on paper we should be more talented than anyone else on the schedule, I feel like we will stumble somewhere else along the way, with UT and TAMU the most likely candidates.

It is what it is. My enthusiasm for all things sports related has pretty much been crushed by 2020 already, so I don't know that it will make much difference in my life anyway.

I think we win 4 out of the first 5. Maybe 5/5 to be honest.

Back half is really interesting. Injury-dependent, I think I'd normally feel relatively good about LSU, MSU, and Tennessee. Not necessarily confident, but good.

Alabama seems like a loss. A&M could either be a huge pressure game or a no pressure game (for both of us), so that's really hard to predict.

It's going to be a surreal season if it happens.

I'm interested to see if Gus opens up the offense and let's Chad call plays looser (or Gus calls a game looser). It seems that Gus gets tight in big SEC games (2017 LSU for example) and opens it up more against the cupcake games. Also, with the perception that this is somewhat a "throw away" season not knowing what will happen as far as the post season goes. So maybe he won't be coaching with the usual mountain of pressure on his back and get back to his '13 & '14 offense that doesn't try and force what isn't there.

Maybe something like this year where there isn't so much at stake, Gus can get his mojo back and move forward with some confidence and swagger that he seems to have lost the past 5 years.

6-4 probably. One year closer to a new HC is the silver lining.

I'd like to think this was possible, but Gustav has been his own worst enemy for so long now I will believe it only after I've seen't it.

Who were you watching?

Only 4 losses... yes...and two more miracle whip wins.

We started with one in game one against Oregon. And the other was another in a long line of miraculous wins playing Alabama. IRC the first game - at the last possible chance our true freshman QB (in game one) under-through a pass that the receiver stopped to get and win with seconds on the clock... in a game that we never lead till then...made possible only because their QB got his knee bumped (knee-2-knee) and it stopped their possession. (all hail Gus ) And the second was another of those Nick Saban whining to the NCAA games, about time on the clock and Auburn, and changing rules thereafter. Miracles are nice don't get me wrong, but beating you opponent for 3 quarters would be so much better. Kinda like how he does against Arkansas.

But he's safe and ok ....

Because shitting the bed in a bowl game is after the season. And losses to Florida, LSU, and Georgia are big boy losses. In a perfect world, with a better contract, we'd deduct a year for that crap. Hell in this not-so-perfect world why not just Donald Trump him, and file for bankruptcy because of this year's extraordinary financial woes, just pennies on the dollar and gone.

Any chance we see the Notre Dame Box with pirouettes?

I remember the Cox Cat.

Surely Gus will have some “wrinkles”.

This should be the season for no excuses for Gus. He has a QB with a season of experience and his buddy is on the sidelines as OC...whether he's calling the plays is TBD.

I can already hear Gus mentioning the difficulties of dealing with the pandemic as a big reason we're sitting at 4-3 with three games remaining...ugh.
