Is the Kick Six the greatest play in sports history?

Buzzer beaters, hail marys, walk off home runs. Those plays happen all the time. But this play had literally never happened to end a game and it happened in a one of the moat historic rivalries in sports with two top 5 teams playing for a chance at a championship.

No. In the end it only decided the SEC and didn’t have any lasting ripples. Auburn didn’t ascend to new heights and Bama still had shitty kickers and remained dominant

I'm biased so I think so.
I think it's difficult to make an objective argument that it's not in the very top tier of best plays. It was a major game on paper, an elite rivalry game on top of that, involving one of the greatest CFB coaches of all time, that was decided in the last second by an insane play. That Auburn had recently won another huge game in ridiculous fashion probably helps too.
That said, I think there are probably other plays in the same category with the same claim that check the same (relative) boxes. So I wouldn't necessarily disagree if non AU people think it's in a general tie for #1 with several others.

I would have to say LSU going for it on 4th down against Fla. Needed 5 inches, Hester exploded up the middle for 7 inches.

It has to be up there. I remember watching that live. You'd have thought I went to Auburn with how excited I got.

Most boneheaded coaching in history at the end of a game.
It was Unfair.
It was Unfair.

No, Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott to beat Florida on the last play of the game is better. Georgia went on to win the Natty.

It hurt like a mf’er no doubt about it pretty much as bad as that last drive Bama had to win the 2012 Bama @ LSU game. Just cruddy freak occurrences that steal your psychic energy.

Wouldn't you agree that the encompassment of sports history must surely include more than individual plays from team sports ?
Lets see, what are likely candidates...
Miracle on ice
Frazier beating Ali
Hank Aaron breaking Ruth's homerun ( real homeruns ) record
Jesse Owens dominating the 1936 Olympics
Jerry Lawler losing a hair vs hair match to Austin Idol
many more.

I have to think so. The play was not the linchpin in something history changing, but had every other characteristic of what the "Greatest" play in the should have:
* The lesser of 2 evils prevailed.
* It could not have happened to a better, more deserving team and coach; Saban is too smart of a coach to allow something like that to happen!
* The trouble Saban through to make it possible really brought a rare and legitimate case of irony ( in the Iron Bowl no less ).
* It was amazing and really fun to watch. You didn't need to slow it down and replay it from 15 angles to see what happened.
* It had to occur in real life. If someone puts that in a movie, everyone calls bullshite and pans the story as absurd fantasy.

This is it exactly. It definitely ranks up there with the best, but greatest play in sports history? It needed a few more consequences for it to be in the discussion for that. Auburn road that momentum to an SEC title and national championship game appearance, before losing the latter in the final seconds. Alabama went on to win three straight SEC championships and three straight Iron Bowls and Auburn hasn't had a team anywhere near as good since then.
